With the injured air crew bundled into the truck, the Russian BTR-80 attempts to screen the withdrawal and comes under intense RPG fire from all Chechen fighters

....but unfortunately for the Chechens, their shots only glance the vehicle and its able to continue the withdrawal

Despite the valiant rescue attempt, one of the heli crew dies in the back of the truck

With the firefight dying down, the Russians execute a successful withdrawal as dusk descents across the battlefield

What a fabulous game, nail biting until the end!!

A big thanks to my friend John Caboche for making the trip over the Severn Bridge and for commanding the Russian forces, you served Mother Russia well and you were brilliant company as always!!!

Having totted up the victory points, the Chechens won this engagement, scoring a great propaganda victory by downing the HIND Gunship and then successfully denying the Russians from recovering the machine.

Great write up, the battle was terrific fun and well worth the trip to the wilds of Wales from Swindon.

The Bolt Action modern supplement works really well, massed AK47s are very nasty to be on the receiving end of as my Para squads found out...

Not a good day to be a Russian para, however the chopper crew (well 2 of them at least) owe their lives to the Paras

Great fun game and a great story to play out, could have gone either way right up to the end really, as seems to be the case with most of our games.

Its definitely those 2 shot assault rifles which defines this game from standard Bolt Action WWII games.

I used a combination of miniature companies for my collection, however, the vast majority come from Tiny Terrain Models - The War In Chechnya Range: https://www.tinyterrainmodels.co.uk/

This relatively new company has run 2 successful kickstarters, but most of the models are now available on the website. The sculpts are top notch, with little to no flash, it took me less than an hour to clean up 60+ miniatures. Anatomically the miniatures are spot on and the weapons are not over-sized. There is lots of great details on both the Russian and Chechens, the latter are dressed in a nice variety of military and civilian clothing, which mirrors all the photos from the war.

The Russians also have a good variety of kit, plus a decent range of support weapons, including a AGS-17 grenade launcher and MG teams. You also have the choice between Russian "line" infantry or VDV Recon Troops (paras) to form your platoons.

I can highly recommend these miniatures and vouch for the fact they mix well with the 28mm moderns from Empress Miniatures.
