28mm Hussite Wars Options?
« on: March 25, 2019, 09:26:32 PM »
Thinking once again about doing the Hussite Wars in one fashion or another - probably much like my Maximilian collection, slow building for skirmish towards eventually having full battles - and I'm wondering about the options in 28mm?

I'll start with 1st Corps - the range from what was Kingmaker - of course, I've always had a hankering to paint those up. I'm wondering what options there are for figures of similar size though?

I believe Perry are similar size, can anyone confirm or deny? I'm thinking mixing up some of their French for Agincourt could give me a useful boost to troop numbers and variety.

Aware that Old Glory have a bunch in their Dracula and the Turkish Frontier range, but I'm assuming those are 25s rather than 28s and wouldn't mix well. Can't find a comparison picture anywhere but does anyone have an idea if that is the case?

Any other options for figures compatible with Kingmaker/1st Corps suitable for Bohemia and Eastern Europe?

Thanks!

Rob

While I'm not sure of any other suitable ranges, the Perry Agincourt to Orleans plastics fit perfectly with the Kingmaker Hussites, both being on the taller side and with a similar build. The French would work well for the forces of the HRE.

Hope that helps!

I’ve mixed ex-Kingmaker with Front Rank 100YW without problems.

As for the Perry Agincourt to Orleans range, do not forget to check their new plastic cavalry set - plenty of value for money.

Perrys also do a range of carts and wagons in their WotR range. This one might look good as a part of a wagon fort:

If you are going to start with skirmish gaming, wagon forts might not be particularly relevant, but individual carts drawn by oxen or horses could make for good scenario objectives, so check also their other carriages:

There is usually a wagoneer or two included per set; being part of the WotR range, these are slightly smaller than the Agincourt to Orleans figures, and possibly dressed in a more modern fashion, so you may want to consider substituting them with other models - there are a couple of packs of handy peasants in the Agincourt to Orleans range.

Irregular do some nice bits, but then you're talking 25mm.

Splendid, thanks all, sounds like plenty of variation is available.

I like the thought of a warwagon as a central piece for a skirmish, so that's definitely going to feature quite early too I think.
