Exploring the Frozen Ruins
« on: March 26, 2019, 01:48:54 AM »
Two more warbands explored the frozen ruins of Frostgrave using a tarot card discovery deck.  This time, the explorers had to compete for their discoveries.  The warbands had an indecisive skirmish, with most of the combat being directed against monsters spawned from the discovery deck.  You can see more pictures and read the story here:

Where did you get the Tarot deck?

I bought that deck a few years ago.  It now seems to be out of print.  There are many for sale online but they are rather expensive.  You could use any tarot deck that is based on the traditional Rider-Waite deck.  You can get many versions on Amazon for around $15 and most of them have artwork which is suitably evocative for exploring the ruins of a magical city.  There are also tarot mobile apps which are cheap.  I have the Fool's Dog app on my iphone.  The table I created for this project can be seen and downloaded here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LPv30yOqwQxasLwMi8Z781S2kRra9VqK/view?usp=sharing

I know nothing about tarot, but found this set in aliexpress:

Is it similar to yours?

Yes, that deck is perfect.  The English language version of that deck is called The Witches Tarot.  As far as I can tell, only two card names are changed.  Judgement is called Karma, and Dark Lord/Devil is called Shadow.  Those pictures would match the discovery table I created very nicely and the artwork in general is beautiful and fitting for the typical high fantasy vision of Frostgrave.  If your theme is different, steampunk or grim dark for example, there are decks that would fit those themes too.
