Balfour's Regiment serving as part of Hugh MacKay's Scots Brigade in Dutch Service.  Just as an aside, and apropos of nothing, the Scots Brigade became the 2nd battalion of the Connaught Rangers in a future manifestation. Nice to see their antecedents here.  I think I’m right but I stand to be corrected.  ::) ???

Yes; the Fourth Anglo-Dutch War of 1782-84 (essentially an adjunct of the American War of Independence) caused the disbandment of the Brigade, and the dispersal of the men amongst the 22nd, 23rd and 24th Dutch regiments of the line, with the overwhelming majority of the officers returning to Great Britain and Ireland.  Eventually, these officers petitioned the British government to re-raise the Brigade, but the Dutch weren't interested, so they were re-embodied as the 94th Foot in 1784, and sent off to India.  In 1881, they were, as you rightly say, combined with the 88th Foot as the Connaught Rangers.
No plan survives first contact with the dice.

Excellent little bit of potted history there , Baron . I love this combination of Regimental history and beautifully presented figures.

Your army is most enviable. Nothing beats those large standards and colorful uniforms.

I have a great text in English about Danish uniforms, colors and standards 1675-1679, that you might be interested in seeing as you are painting Danish regiments.

Cheers

Perfect!
Neat painting as always and the gabions and rest of barricade give them additional life!
And... what a flag!  :-* Cheers!

Mackay's Scottish Regiment of Foot in Dutch Service.

Hugh Mackay was a Scottish military officer who settled in the Netherlands and spent most of his career in the service of William of Orange. His regiment served in the famous Anglo-Dutch Brigade.

They didn't really, because this is also the beginning of the idea of nationhood. Charles II for example ordered all English and Scottish soldiers to return home, a first in our military history, and if I recall right, if you didn't you had to swear allegiance to the country of your employer because you weren't allowed back.
