Epic Squat Army Log.
« on: April 07, 2019, 06:09:52 PM »
I have finally decided to bite the bullet and see if I can paint Epic Squats. It is something that I have been meaning to do for many years but have never got around to... however, after a 'rubbish' bid actually won an item on EBay, I have got hold of five mint sprues of Epic Squat Warriors.

I have decided that it will just be for show so I can build it however I like with no need to fit in with the rules... this is just a modelling project, not a gaming one... that means that I can add what I like and make another characterful little army :) .

So... with that in mind, I have sorted out the organisation and have decided to start with the army commanders. These five are finished apart from basing (which will be home made from plasticard to make them nice and thin):

Next up will be the ten-Squat command squad to join them :) .

Looking good so far  8)

Are you going to repeat the 28mm ones you’ve done or try something different?
cheers

Cheers :) ... Something different, this time :) .

It's at a very early stage yet so I am not planning too much until I've decided whether I can easily paint such small miniatures. The standard troops are really tiny and I am hoping that I can cope with them. If I can, then I'll start looking at transport options and vehicles :) ... but not at the moment or I'll stall.

Oh these are looking fabulous! I’ve got around 5 sprues myself, which have been lurking for years..... they really are pretty tiny but quite detailed.

Love the colour scheme and I’m really looking forward to seeing this project grow.

They are very well painted! Excellent stuff, looking forward to seeing more.

I’ve got a fairly big squat epic army built up over the last few years, other than hte infanrty sprues the GW stuff is quite hard to get hold of, but there are lots of proxies available, which gives you even more options as you are going for a modeling project.

Cheers :)

I've been painting the rest of the little command group and they are now finished (apart from bases):

I cannot begin to explain just how enjoyable these little dudes are to paint :) .

Next up will be a unit of Thudd Guns with crew, then the command squad for them.

Very nice. I'm impressed at the detail you are bringing out on these tiny figures, and the colour scheme works well. They are fun little characterful models to paint.

Great stuff! Are you going to be basing them on the 40mmx10mm strips?

Thanks :) .

I'm really enjoying these and painting is very easy. A neat base coat followed by a wash of Nuln oil and then it's a case of just brightening up the insignia colours... done :) .

Basing is going to be home made so I can keep them thin... I want the bases to be the same thickness as the bases that are already on the troops so I am planning on cutting holes in plasticard and gluing the minis in place from underneath. It's something I have to think about but that's the plan :) .

The hearthguard helmets are a bit like the Inquisition hoods... but there won't be too many of them so I don't mind the imposing nature of them.

I have been asked about whether I plan to convert any of the troops... NO! No, I am not... I cannot even begin to think of the injuries that i would incur, trying to cut these little tiny things up :o :D . I am happy with them, the way they are :) .

They look beautiful!

I was contemplating of selling my unpainted Squats. But then comes a thread like this, and I just want to keep them for that day when I finally have the time. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thank you :) .

I have recently finished the crew for three thudd guns so will likely be posting some pix tomorrow... once the guns are finished :) .

The first unit of Thudd guns (I plan on having 3 of these units to make up an artillery company):

The second unit is off the sprue, waiting for clean up and base-coating :) .
