Rebelstar, completed Moonbase, page 2
« on: April 15, 2019, 08:00:10 AM »
I first thought about transferring the 8-bit game Rebelstar to my tabletop in 2006, in fact, I still have the terrain supplies I bought to make the boards. It didn't happen back then but it's happening now!

I've written a set of rules that use area movement and Action Points to give a fast and uncomplicated recreation of the on-screen action. The first draft version is available on my site, later refinements will follow (I've already changed some details).

I'll be using my existing sci fi floorplans to build the moon base and other locations. I'll be adding a few new tiles to the set.

And I'll mostly be using Reaper Bones miniatures for the combatants involved.

Painting of the miniatures commences once I've got a small commission out of the way, hopefully later this week. Terrain building will start around the same time.
Stay tuned!

I loved that game! I think it was from Crisalids.
BTW, what are you going to use for attacking machines?

*edited:
On second thought I think I'm mistaking it with Laser Squad, also from same author. I liked very much all Gollop's games and I also thought time ago about playing it with minis. I painted two factions in 15mm but never finished the project.

Oh man, Rebelstar was awesome, I'll be watching how this goes.

Haha, I was going to make a joke about implementing rules for mowing the grass then just saw your post in the Wanted forum...  ;D

It was a great game, I shall be watching this with interest - I've not seen Matakishi produce anything other than a great game, scenery and models so this is sure to be great too.

Don't know the game but this looks like it'll be extremely cool. (I mean, Matakishi could dump Legos on the table and I'd be intrigued to see what he did with 'em.)

So I've started on the painting.

First up the miniatures. Zeekers and servo droids because they're the easiest and quickest to do.

The scenery. Here's the main computer, the objective the Raiders must destroy to win, and a couple of medical scanners to show where the medi-bay is.

The secondary objectives. The droid control station, the armoury and the defensive shield station. The droid control station can be used to activate and deactivate the sentry droids, the armoury allows the defenders access to better weapons and the defensive shield station must be destroyed by the Raiders to allow their reinforcements to arrive.

The conveyor belt and some general scatter.

Water coolers to be coffee machines. Having a refreshing cup of espresso mid-battle adds to a combatant's Action Point total.

All the scenery is from Ainsty Castings.

Thank you.
Here are the Raiders (without their combat droids, I'm waiting for some bases). The camera isn't kind to them, they look much better in real life :(

With the combat droids and the mining droid(s) done the miniatures for the main Rebelstar mission are complete. Now I'm going to concentrate on the extra terrain tiles and the last bits of (large) scenery. Work on miniatures for subsequent scenarios will continue in the background at a slower pace.
