I think the thing that most people will find most surprising is the amount of open space within the Citadel. This one, taken from above the north-west corner of the Citadel, looking south towards the Perfume River is a real eye-opener.

Is that an airstrip in the citadel?

Yes, the Hue Citadel airfield (also referred to as Tay Loc airfield).

Yes, the Hue Citadel airfield (also referred to as Tay Loc airfield).

Here’s a close up from the same site circa 1966. Very heavy fighting involving the ARVN took place around the airfield, where it was held, lost, retaken, lost and finally recaptured.

Must have advertising, street signs etc.

https://duplicata-productions.myshopify.com/collections/signs-road-store-ads/filter-by-conflict_vietnam?page=1

second page has some Huế specific signs.

1/35 admittedly but bigger is better, no?

Good link. The same posters could be printed in different sizes anyway. EDIT - they also say  that they can print 'most things' to other scales without extra cost upon request. (See their FAQ section).

Thank you! I hadn’t noticed that bit about them resizing stuff for free.

I notice that most of the advertising has been pinched directly from the websites I linked to earlier. Great minds and all that...

Funnily enough my original idea on how to tackle this was to wander along Victoria Street or through Footscray and take some photos of all the shop names. Might slip some favourite eateries into the mix.  :)

If you want pics of the Imperial citadel and the historic buildings contained within, then there is an excellent book called Royal Hue

Reese did some amazing hand made village buildings in 20mm over at the old Fields of Fire. Should serve as some inspiration for villages:

I had watched this thread ages ago but I have re-visited it as I thought there was mention of air conditioner units of that period. Now I can't find any reference to them, does someone have suggestions for such units, please?

I do recall seeing the rear of a building in a Hong Kong (New Territories) "fishing" village that was liberally festooned with AC units, thought it was quite amusing at the time but it was a 3 or 4 story building.

As you might have seen, I am starting with some Sarissa buildings.

My initial inspiration is the two page (78-79) spread in Osprey's Campaign 4 book on the Tet Offensive.

I think Wyrmalia mentioned Sarissa with someone else did a CIA compound which might work for the US Embassy (there is a two page spread on that as well).

Carlos suggested some of the Sarissa French buildings (C103 and C104) as suitable for big towns.

Some pierced work concrete block walls would be useful.

[edit] Wyrmalia's blog post here https://thesticks.net/2018/11/03/special-artizan-service-miniatures-october-news-releases/
Though the SASM link is down.

Thanks James, I'll see if my sister in law will bring some with her on her pending visit. What is turn around time from order to delivery in the UK?
