Painting some D&D oldschool minis
« on: April 16, 2019, 05:27:27 PM »
I´m having fun painting some old school D&D monsters that have been sleeping in my pile of lead for too long
I will post photos as I paint them, to keep the thread light I will just post a couple of pics, if you want to see more you can see the post in my blog
First one is...
The Shambling Mound
from Ral Partha #11-493.
Sculptor Dave Summers

Great paint work! After all those years this mini finally makes sense! But he's not that monstrous, more like the friendly forest thing that wants to shake hands.
"I'd like to send this letter to the Prussian consulate in Siam by aeromail. Am I too late for the 4:30 autogyro?"
"Uh, I better look in the manual... This book must be out of date. I don't see "Prussia", "Siam" or "autogyro"...

Great painting, but yes, very friendly shake hands creature (also looks like he feels awkward meeting new people) Love the paint job with the other colours, pinks and reds, to break up the greens and browns.

Thank you, glad you like it guys.
Indeed he looks like the green gentlemen of the swamp.
The face has a Jim Henson vibe I really like

You're just showing that "old school" doesn't mean "bad sculpt". Your great painting show us the miniature quality.

Wow! Great work! I'm not familiar with this miniature, but now I'm going to have to find it!

I love the nose, especially. I wouldn't have thought to paint it like a mushroom. Well done!

That shambling mound looks fantastic; you're right, he's got a muppety face that's really charming.

What a beautiful miniature. The face, in particular, is full of character and expression, some of it due to the lovely sculpt, but much of it, I think, due to the marvelous painting. He really looks like a socially awkward forest creature who's practicing how to meet new people. "Then, extend your right hand in greeting, and always remember to smile..."

And they call him a monster...

Thank you guy I really appreciate your comments. As a side note I discovered same sculptor released more recently a new version of a shambling mound, following an art concept from Tom Diterlizzi and produced by Dark Sword https://www.darkswordminiatures.com/shop/index.php/miniatures/diterlizzi-masterworks/the-shambler.html

I will add a new photo, I already posted this one in LAF, in the thread The Oldschool Fantasy painting party. I want to include it here since I took new photos, is matching the theme and is part of that batch of oldschool monsters I´m painting
