Lovely looking game!

Hopefully, if Paul survives the grinding sculpting schedule of the American War, he’ll return at some point to fill out the French. We could really do with some non-para figures in a variety of headwear, suitable for Legionnaires, African and Colonial troops. There are plenty of suitable vehicles out there now, so gaming The Street Without Joy or employing the dinassauts would be marvellous. Even Dien Bien Phu requires some non-para types.

As I mentioned to the original owners, a couple of packs of riflemen with MAS 49/56 rifles would make the Paras good for the entirety of the Algerian war as well.

The Vietminh ambush resulted in the French having to reinforce their laft flank and centre in order to ensure they were not attacked in the bridge area. Meanwhile the Vietminh arrived on the rear of the right flank and caught the recoilless rifle team in the flank. However the French managed to drive the Vietminh off (due to some amazing dice rolls

) but the unit then packed its gun up and went home having failed the morale check. So both units kinda equalled each other out.

On the left flank the Vietminh ambushers pulled back as to attack would have meant doom as the French had reinforced the flank with MMG, infantry and mortars.

The French counter attacked the position and found it empty and followed up.

In the centre the French pushed on towards the village.

On the right flank a French unit moved up the table and went into overwatch to cover the centre move forward.

The French centre advanced and was able to out flank the Vietminh who has previously retreated from the ambush. They were laying in wait ready to spring another ambush but were themselves attacked. This time by mortar fire that had been called in by the French leading recce unit. This Vietminh unit took heavy casualties and retired.

However another Vietminh unit sprang onto the table and attacked the leading French unit on the right flank driving them back with a couple of casualties. However they charged into the French guns and were mowed down by the reserves behind.

However this recce unit came under heavy fire from a Vietminh MMG hiding in the village. No casualties were caused but stress was building.

On the right flank another Vietminh unit appeared on the table and charged the leading French unit who dispatched them with heavy fire losing only one casualty. phew.

With the majority of Vietminh forces now spent and the French having taken significant casualties which would make bad reading in tomorrows news papers the French advanced and torched the village. Mission accomplished but it was hard work.

As the village burned following the recce unit searching for any weapons or intelligence suddenly overhead flew a French navy Bearcat.

Which I finished after the game was finished so simply did a few fly pasts.

Bloody show off shouted the paras, well a lot worse actually. The pilot simply grinned and flew home for coffee and Croissants.
