That terrain board looks the business - you are certainly churning out things right now.

Turbo brill :D

I like the base board very much. We can use that when we restart the Pirate project  lol

Cheers folks.

Have to admit though that apart from the minis this has been done over many months and I’ve just got round to posting it  :D

My pirates are still raw lead.  Looking forward to getting them done though.  8)

I’m afraid I don’t have enough Star Wars knowledge* to create a storyline, I just liked Rogue One  :D

*I rely on my Star Wars coach, OSHIROmodels, for Star Warsy opinion, guidance, recommendations and approval  ;)

I have, however, got a plan for a few small skirmish games involving a coastal outpost comprising bunker, gun battery and flight base.......

I’ve made a small board:

Lovely looking board! I like the Perspex sea. Where did you source the Perspex and was it expensive? Also, what did you make the land from? Looks perfect for Pacific island hoping...

The water is clear acrylic sheet that has been ‘glued’ to a ply backing board using white silicon sealant with streaks and blotches of blue paint mixed in.

I’ve also made an entrance to an underground bunker:

Btw I’m not fully sold on these terrain items yet, as I think I will probably add more grass plus tufts to both, and more dust etc to the bunker.

And the gun battery is ready to paint (and has been for months!):

The gun units are magnetised so will rotate on their low towers.

Thanks very much!

It’s a bit convoluted as I made the island from the parts of three abandoned projects. I didn’t keep notes but I have some photos that give a pretty good idea of how it was done.

Being an island, quite clearly the land mass needed to be at least slightly higher than the water. But the water was going to have an acrylic sheet surface. I contemplated buying a sheet of acrylic glass from a DIY Shed but opted to use some ‘glossier’ pieces I’d already got (more of that in a mo).

As an experiment, I’d previously made a folding terrain board using an Artists portfolio case constructed from a thick card.

Portfolio case (folded):

Case opened out and it’s inner card surface covered in silicone with paint and sand mixed in, then various other layers of PVA and sand, paint, static grass etc on top:

The recycled case was subsequently cut to fit onto a piece of Marine Ply:

The small area that would become sea was emulsioned with a colour match to Vallejo Dark Sand:

Without mixing, a small amount of Vallejo Pastel Blue was dropped into a small quantity of water:

To which was added a quantity of clear silicone sealant:

The sealant was very roughly mixed into the water and paint then roughly smeared over the dark sand areas of the board:

Many years ago OSHIROmodels had lasered me some acrylic sheet to use as part of a frozen lake. This was clamped onto the silicone sealant:

Milliput was then used to  shape the beach gradient down the ‘water’ ( I later added in the narrow central section (see photos in previous post) to enable me to add a second board that might include a spit leading to a smaller island):

Sand was then glued over the Milliput , followed by paint and flock etc:

Hope that helps  :)

Excellent - looks much less painful than the way I’d built my own island boards...might pinch that process for a future project.

Acrylic for ‘Pacific’ water does look lovely  :D

Not sure if I’ll ever make the spit and small island but that’ll definitely need a bigger sheet!

This started as a Rogue project though I’m now inclined to move away from the Pacific island setting to somewhere more temperate, which will better suit my mass of terrain. As I like the lushness of Endor (but I can’t stand Ewoks) I might do some sort of mix-up between what are my two favourite movies: Rogue One and Return of the Jedi*.

*as long as I can memory-bleach any scene involving Ewoks.

While I’m hypothesising, maybe the project could be set on the Wookiee home planet, with an Endor-like scenario but involving Wookies ( :-*) rather than Ewoks ( :'(). It’d be totes-original, no one has ever thought of it before .....

Quote
Kashyyyk, also known as Wookiee Planet C, is a fictional planet in the Star Wars universe. It is the tropical, forested home world of the Wookiees. According to interviews given by Star Wars creator George Lucas, the home of the Wookiees was originally intended to be the forest moon of Endor which plays a key role in the plot of the sixth film of the series, Return of the Jedi.
Wikipedia

Anyways, here’s my latest progress: some conversions of Bendies plus some mash-ups of Bolt Action, Project Z and other plastics to create human troopers. As much as I like the Bendies, the inconsistent scaling and some of the posing annoy me, thus the conversions.

A young female Jedi with a couple of robots:

A group of Rebel flight crew (I have two single fighters and a double-crewed troop-landing craft to paint):

And 10 Rebel troopers (two are finished):

And for completeness of the Rebel force, the Wookies from page 1:

Star Wars!

 lol

The galaxy is on the large side so there's no reason why you couldn't have it on a generic temperate planet (without Ewoks or Wookies)  :)
