What figs to use for 28mm Soviet Marines for Cold War
« on: September 12, 2022, 05:55:16 PM »
Hello:  I’m looking for 28mm figures to be used as Soviet Marines in the 1980’s.  Could I use Soviet VDV; AKA Paratroops.

Best match would be the Under Fire Soviets in camo suits. Perfect really.

For some bizarre reason the individual packs haven’t been displaying on the UF website but the platoon pack is still there.

If those don’t appeal then the ex Mongrel Miniatures VDV from Badger Games would work, they are on one piece KMLK suits. Paint berets and belts black and you’re good.

Thank you very much.  What about Empress Miniatures?

Half of the figures are in a very specifically VDV jump suit, so not really suitable. The other half are in a two piece camouflage uniform, which the Naval Infantry may have worn but most photos I have seen show either the black tunic and trousers or the one-piece KMLK camo suit.

The Under Fire minis are from the same sculptor as the Empress ones and come in steel helmets, which would be a far more likely head wear in combat.

The field uniform of the Soviet naval Infantry in a real battle would most likely look like this:
