We were intending to release these with lots more in a couple of weeks but we've decided to make them available later today.

Oh, and we've renamed the group of them to " Depertment of Paranornal Studies" :-)

After we've released some WWII & Plains Infantry packs late next week  we'll be  releasing a new batch of Thrilling Tales ( I have no idea what they are though, but Mike tells me to expect another 9 or so )

Here are another three to add to my ever growing Thrilling Tales shopping list, great stuff!

The chap on the end has a nice Colonel Marbles look about him.  :)

While Thrilling Tales requests are on the go, how about some French Resistance girls in Beret and Trenchcoat?  :)

I think I need to point out that God wants it.

You're right, now I'll need to find him a 1:56 scale xylophone.  :)

Man, those are some great boffins. And I'll bet their secretary has her hands full keeping them on time for their appointments, not offending the grant agencies, and keeping them from being abducted from the Gefliegentersaucen Abteilung.

I´m blushing with virtual and IRL shame here, but who is this "Boffins" character? I´ve seen him mentioned several times, but apart from the slang term (for a scholarly, out-of-touch-with-reality scientist, IIRC/AFAIK) I wouldn´t know one... any serial character?

:?:

Or are those simply "Boffins", ie generic scientists?

The original Boffins were the team of British scientists who invented RADAR during WWII.

"Boffins" is not a person's name. It's a British slang term from World War Two for scientists.

The word has connotations of a slight degree of eccentricity. Barnes Wallis, the Dam Busters' Bouncing Bomb (plus the Tallboy and Grandslam bombs)  inventor, could be characterised as a Boffin.

But I am unaware of its use as a character's name.

And the fig on the left looks suprisingly (?) like Samuel Beckett :

Those figures look like they would be great for some type of board game.  Maybe clue or something.

A little bit more on the name 'Boffin'.

The BBC show Balderdash & Piffle, a series about the orgins of strange English words, had a piece about it and their research has been added to the OED, you can see here:

http://www.oed.com/bbcwordhunt/boffin.html

It's now used as a general term for scientist or inventor.
