French ordonnance commanders, 1460s-80s
« on: April 28, 2019, 06:56:02 PM »
Is anyone out there aware of period images of French commanders in ordonnance armies from the 1460s to 1480s? Not reconstructions, and not from outside that period, and only French. If you are, would greatly appreciate your bringing them to my attention. Thanks.

I'm not sure there are many contemporary images of French Ordonnance soldiers at all for that period...I would expect commanders and captains to be attired  in full harness for the time - in either an Italian or 'German' style?
Just a guess.....
Simon.

Some pictures of the Charles VII army in miniatures (finished in 1460) of the Livre d'heure d'Etienne Chevallier:
First One is the Guard of Charles VII

All picts are available here : https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Livre_d'heures_d'%C3%89tienne_Chevalier.
It's not the exact period but il could give you idea.
