Powder Mage Trilogy by Brian McClellan
« on: April 29, 2019, 03:24:39 PM »
Gentlemen and ladies,

Anyone out there thought about developing a game based on the above?

An interesting alternate Napoleonic setting with traditional 'old school' magic and powder mages who can manipulate black powder.

Any thoughts, pointers or previous experience welcome.

Thank you

Sounds interesting, I'm going to have to look this series up. Gunpowder fantasy is awesome and under-represented!

It looks like there's a Savage Worlds RPG sourcebook for this universe: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/236321/The-Powder-Mage-Roleplaying-Game

On that vein, I've been mucking about with adding weird/horror/fantasy stuff to my English Civil War project: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=116635.0

Love the series, eagerly awaiting the last book in the second one.

Could see it like a Frostgrave-style skirmish game, where a Powder Mage leads a squad of soldiers.

Likewise, love the series and awaiting the next book (and hoping another set is forthcoming after that)

I guess the question would be how to prevent your Powder Mages from being overpowered - being able to take out entire squads in one go through sparking off their own powder might make it quite a short game. Could certainly introduce limitations and so forth, but interesting how to make the mechanics work.

savage worlds also has its implementations as a skirmish game, so there might be some potential there.

Sounds interesting. Last year, I played the Frankenstein Wars on my iPad. A very well made gamebook thats set in early 19th century Europe where the French revolutionary forces have discovered Dr. Frankenstein‘s secret to resurrect the dead.

I enjoyed it and was playing with the thought for a while...but I have too many procets. lol

I have considered getting some figures to do just that.

Didn't know there was a second series, will have to look into that now.

Interesting thread , I like the idea of the frostgrave ideal or possibly en garde  rules
Wirelizard those conversions are really inspiring .
I can’t find my DM Cornish monsterblood tattoo book but that’s another similar  great series.
