I had also painted XI corps with Chariot minis, but not to this standard, I admit and so well organized as yours, with batteries, limbers and all.
Thanks for taking the time to write down  the whole story of XI Corps, cheers!

Cheers chaps!

It's only cod/potted history - I can't claim to know that much about the ACW.  However, the XI Corps' story is a very interesting one, I think.

Needs more routing stands ie figures throwing their weapons and gear away and running away.  ;)

The XI Corps routed at Chancellorsville and were beaten at Gettysburg. Then they were transferred out west (with the XII Corps) and reinvented themselves, along with General Howard. After fighting well at Chattanooga, they were amalgamated with the XII Corps into the new XX Corps and marched with Sherman to Atlanta, to the sea in Georgia and up through South and then North Carolina to the the end.

Edit: Sherman thought enough of the transplanted eastern troops that he took them with him on the march to the sea as part of his 60,000 veterans and sent other troops back to Tennessee. He also promoted Howard to command of the Army of the Tennessee after McPherson was killed, although this was also to goad Hooker into resigning. Howard had no debacles after Gettysburg and abolitionist that he was, founded the Black university named for him after the war.

Cheers, yes, the XI Corps does seem to be a much-maligned formation that is largely remembered for it's earlier bad days (Shenandoah, Chancellorsville and the 1st day of Gettysburg) and not it's good days (2nd Manassas and everything after the 1st day of Gettysburg).
