Map Making Tools
« on: May 01, 2019, 11:48:21 PM »
Hey there people,

I'm wondering what program you'd suggest I look at for map making. My intention is to make some print outs for convention games, but I'm not having any luck finding anything.

This would be simple maps for scenario handouts / player aids. The kind of thing you'd see in the TooFatLardie pint sized campaigns, or similar campaign books.

What have you seen out there? What are you using?

I have an old copy of Campaign Cartographer somewhere.  You're welcome to try it if I can find it.  The guys from Little Wars TV use Paint, which is also an option:

The guys from Little Wars TV on Youtube put out a video fairly recently about creating maps using the Microsoft Paint program.

I used Microsoft powerpoint and the shapes, lines, textures, effects, etc in that to produce scenario maps. I guess it's essentially the same as those in paint, with a few more options and functions.

Once you have these basic shapes done, I save them on a separate page. Then you can play around with the size, width, thickness, colour and shape and cut and paste them as you see fit to your map.

You can try "Other world mapper" or "Inkarnate" both are very easy to use and you can make very nice looking maps with a help from these programs.
