Victrix war elephants 28mm
« on: May 03, 2019, 06:11:56 PM »
A lot of companies are making great new war elephants. Many in resin, and many in plastic now. The new Victrix African is nice because it has crew for numerous armies, and you get two of them. It is a bit thick in the sides and is somewhat over emphatic in the skin folds and textures, but I like it very much. Well engineered and the sculpting actually makes it easy to paint. The LBMS transfers are super busy and I don't normally go for them- but they really do set off this model as your army's signature piece. After all that is elephants are- show off for parades and to scare wobbly enemy troops!

Excellent paint job.

Does someone make an alternative head for this elephant...or did I just imagine that?

Very nice work, Jeff!

Although I was wondering what AEC might have said about the Numidian's flesh colour...

It's got its flaws but honestly, I agree that the Victrix elephant is an absolute treat to have in any army. Great job!

Excellent paint job.

Does someone make an alternative head for this elephant...or did I just imagine that?

There are two trunk options with the kit (as well as two elephants).  It also comes with three halves per elephant giving different leg options.  I'm planning on adding green stuff to the spare halves to make dead elephants..

Most beautiful model!

That said, don't try to recruit me as a crew for one of those! Being an elephant handler sitting at the neck makes you a highly arrow-attracting personage with little protection, and while being part of the howdah team provides some protection it really exposes you to a high fall when something goes wrong.

Thanks all- I agree that being tossed off the tower must have been a real drag. I can only guess that a mahout in actual action can lean forward and hug the head to diminish his profile. Few are shown with shields or even javelins.
I would insist, at least on a projectile proof wind screen!

Lovely,

I might put that on my shopping list as my lead elephants always seem to get knocked around a lot.

Cheers
Matt

Aventine and Relic also have switched to resin cast elephants.

Here is the latest Aventine Asian elephant resin kit I have completed:
