UVS - Albedo: Skirmish Starter Set Finished 01/02/2020
« on: May 05, 2019, 07:44:02 PM »
I have been following the development of the Albedo Combat Patrol game , and at Salute 2019 I had decided to limit myself to buying one of the APCs.

That went as well as could be expected.

So I walked away from the Sally 4th stand with a Skirmish Starter set, and the aforementioned APC,

The set includes four EDF Heavy Infantry and seven ILF light infantry.

I decided to paint the ILR in a slightly different colour scheme to the standard dark blue.

The figurs are slightly taller than most 28m figures, William Killian from Crooked Dice for scale.

EDF Heavy Infantry.

There is a mould line on the right arm that I had missed.

The choice of fur colour (Citadel XV-88) does not offer a great deal of contrast with the eyes (Citadel Jokaero Orange) and the Vallejo English Uniform against a grey background.

Here are the two figures together.

Here is a set of figure size comparisons.
My "Standard" 28mm figure, William Killian from Crooked Dice.

An unfinished Harrison Wells from Team Flash, Knight Models.

Malifaux Freikorp.

Brian from The Walking Dead, Mantic Games.

They are a cool concept. And. Nicely painted.
I found the Erma Felna comic pdfs online and have been reading the stories. A hard sci-fi geo-political drama series with fluffy animals that has been a suprisingly good read. I was tempted with these figures, but was put off by the fact that nearly every figure is in "marching left foot forward pose". Its the second 3d designed range that has done this and put me off.

Great stuff!
Once I've done some Albedo otters,I'm planning on doing Rabbit  Terminators...based on a campaign  I played more than 30 years ago where my space empire ruled by rabbits (I had just seen the film Harvey ),they even controlled Terra!

Thanks for the kind words.

I was tempted with these figures, but was put off by the fact that nearly every figure is in "marching left foot forward pose". Its the second 3d designed range that has done this and put me off.
It is a coincidence that both of the figures so far are the sort of standing ones. In the skirmish set there are two body poses for each side:

One striding forward, the other more static.
The EDF striding forward are both female. This may be the luck of the draw. I will have a look at their site about the number of different body poses.

The set also had one cat, one dog and two foxes.

Just saw the comment about number of figure poses...

We had to start some where with body types.
The first miniatures that we produced for pre-kickstarter proof of concept casts had four body types, EDF Heavy Infantry walking, EDF Heavy Infantry Running, ILR Skirmish Infantry Walking and ILR Skirmish Infantry Running.

This has rapidly increased we currently have 29 body pose / uniforms, this includes 8 poses for the basic EDF light infantry troop type 4 male, 4 female each walking left forward, walking right forward, running left forward, running right forward.

We also have 52 head variants and 41 arm variants.

Because of the way the figures are designed even with the same parts you can vary the figure (high port, low port, firing, looking left, looking right, looking straight ahead)

... so there are in fact many hundreds of different poses available.

I've currently assembled in the order of 150+ miniatures and have not got two in my collection that look exactly the same.

Thanks Chris (saved me looking through your site).

I fully understand your decisions, and the head and arms do allow multiple poses (the walking ones do look better as the dynamism is in the arms and head rather than the body).

Are there more EDF heavy infantry poses?

I have the rest of the skirmish starter assembled, I just need to get the base done and the lot painted.

I also have the APC to assemble.

There will be more later.

Here is a shot showing some of the variety and dynamics of the basic EDF Heavy Infantry.

At the moment the Heavy Infantry have the following poses, Male Walking, Female Running, Male Running, Kneeling, Kneeling operating Portable Missile Launcher.

Thanks.

Are the full range of poses included in the Heavy Infantry box set?

The Heavy Infantry Box includes Male Walking, Female Running, Male Running.

The kneeling pose is used for sniper, Auto-Grenade Launcher and Portable Missile Launcher. These were part of kick starter and will be released August / September after we have sent everything out to backers. The snipers are available now as they were part of monthly releases.

Excellent, thanks.

My remaining six ILF and three EDF from the skirmish starter are now undercoated and awaiting painting.

It has been a while, but I have finally finished the painting of the Skirmish Starter set I bought at Salute (Salute 2019, so for me, not such a long time ^__^).

First up, those rascally rabbits.

Not sure if I was just lucky, but there was an ILR light machine gun and an ILR carbine with underslung grenade launcher in the set.
