WHAT NEXT FOR TONKIN ?
«

What do people want to see Ged do next in the Tonkin range ?
I have no connection with him other than as a satisfied customer but maybe it would be good to canvass opinion now that many of the basics are done.
I would like a couple of mounted officers for the French.
Since so many of the small actions involved columns moving to specific objectives a few more porters, supply carriers etc would be nice. Maybe more civilians ? Some specifically nautical figures to crew the junk ?
I would also be happy to have some small vignettes or groups of figures eg war reporters; the above mentioned mounted officers with suitable horses could fall into this category - I would certainly be happy to pay a little extra for these since people are not going to buy hundreds of them.
Anyway lets have some ideas. No reason Ged should necessarily take up all the suggestions then, but he is a scholar and a gentleman......

Chinese regulars with tasseled coolie hat as per senior officer from Opium wars rrange
Legionaires wearing Denegri chest pouches
Chinese Regular Sailors
Sino Vietnamese civilians and shop keepers
Vietnamese Mandarin
French regular artillery piece
Some mounted Black Flags
Other French senior officers, Named generals like Coubert etc

Maybe some french civvies? War correspondents and the like? I'd like to see some more chaps with looted stuff, perhaps a french officer with an ornate (and stolen) sword?

With such a popular range Gringo, you can see we all want to see it develop further to enable us all to develop our scenarios!

Vietnamese civilians and Vietnamese regulars with rifles both would be my top choices.

Another useful - and small - addition to the existing range would be a French officer in képi for the spahis, as they're somewhat lacking in the leadership department at the mo'.

I've made two orders so far of this range and just love'em, top notch all thru but one thing I have noticed in photographs of the era that aren't showing up on the Black Flag/Vietnamese figures are turbans. I think we need some figs wearing turbans, not the bigger ones of say the Pathans but smaller ones. Just an idea!

the smaller turbans were often seen on regular Chinese troops (right up to and including the Boxer rebellion) along with tasseled coolie hats, the larger turbans were seen on Vietnamese troops.
