Bespoke and kit wargame scenery?
« on: May 10, 2019, 02:26:53 PM »
Do any companies out there offer bespoke wargame table scenery?
In that they build various say laser cut buildings and then assemble the lot into a themed table.
Then paint and texture the whole lot.
As an example,
"6X4 table, 28mm battle for Crete WWII"

There are some superb laser cut buildings available,  but I wonder is there any mileage in offering to just take it a bit further?

I notice in a completely different part of life, that some businesses offer to build your flat pack Ikea kitchen and then install it.
This is kind of similar to what I suggest above.

Thanks for looking
Tim

There will always be someone prepared to do that, if the price is right.
As an alternative, do it as a group project. get your mates round & crack on.
I have been involved in such 'Barn Building' like days. The person whose
is host lays on the food & drink, then everybody mucks in.
I have seen some serious dents made in people's lead mountains over just
a few hours. Good fun too, a group of wargamers talking bol***ks all day.

I have tried to get friends into a project like that but it's like herding cats- it's as if they don't actually want their minis painted. ::)

As for the original question- no, I don't know of any. :)

I'm sure Iron Hammer Studios would.  To date they've done commission painting and building kit assembly and detailing.  They crank out full tables used at Huzzah and other conventions, and the Bolt Action League of Maine regular meetings.  They have close relation with Things From The Basement laser-cutting, so new building design commissions are a possibility.

They've done rather spectacular work on Stalingrad tables: https://www.facebook.com/pg/Ironhammerstudio/photos/?tab=album&album_id=228989390979384

Well this is where I’m kind of heading with this..

Is there any mileage in offering such a service?

A good point, of which I’m pretty confident.

Just kicking the idea around, seeing if it’s worth going down this route.
I’m a professional architectural model maker and have been a gamer in my spare time for 45 years.

Just considering putting the two together as a business.

I see you are in the UK so I would say possibly...

As far as I can tell though war gamers are a pretty tight bunch when it come to money.

I believe Grand Manner do custom tables which is why he shuts up shop from time to time.

I have never been a fan of laser cut buildings as they look like card board cut outs to me, at least in kit form. I would be interested to see how good they could be made to look.

If you just treat the shell as just that, a shell, then MDF kits can be made to look really good IMHO. But you need to do some work on them.

It's why I buy cheap shells and tart them up, so for example my £7.00 garage became this:
