A little update, had these complete for a week or more, just needed some more basing materiel to finish them off.

Cavalry and another base of infantry in the next two days or so.

Gaulois Noble cavalry, 28mm Victrix miniatures

Quite happy with my results, four more bases of Nobles and two more light cavalry to complete

Cheers

Can’t say what causes more envy in me: the perfectly painting minis or your lovely place to live next to an oppidum!

The house is to tempt your partner to stay, the toy soldiers and the Oppidum are for us guys!

It truely is a sight to behold some of the inner wall still stand around 8m tall in some places

Another Gaulois unit off the desk!

This week I finished assembling almost 400 plastic figures in preparation for my Autumn and winter painting projects. Up next will be some clothed Gauls, not looking forward to the plaid!

The first unit for my Aulerci Diablintes project off the desk for 2020.

A small unit of skirmishes, before I start the plaid

Great work. Did you find any information about the Aulerci to distinguish them? Customs, organisation, preferred way of fighting etc?

A few pieces, they were head hunters as found in archeological digs. The organisation the Aulerci Diablintes tribe was part of the Aulerci federation which was made up of four main tribes. They seem to have predominantly worshiped water gods, used the river systems of the upper tributes of the  Loire for trade. They were major tin and copper miners and well known metal workers, particularly fine jewellery. They also seemed to have used swan feathers as plumes, as that was their nickname, and the root stem of their name. They used Chariots and mounted cavalry also, as it is commonly depicted on their coinage, so I suspect Nobles used both for warfare, they are noted earlier in the period for fighting naked except for cloaks. They do not seem to have been tattooed.

I will put together a comprehensive list and references on my blog in the coming weeks.

Cheers
Matt

Another unit off the table, the first of the clothed Gauls, the plaid has taken some time. Quite happy with the result though.

These are really very good. I can only aspire to this skill at painting plaid.
