29 Let's Go - Chain of Command Game Nine
« on: May 17, 2019, 07:55:16 AM »
Our Chain of Command campaign reached its crescendo on Tuesday night with the final game, 'Home Run at Osmanville' as a German rearguard fought to keep the bridge at Isigny open long enough to allow their withdrawal.

Very nice report carojon, with quite a similar outcome to the campaign I fought recently with a friend. As Germans, it also came down to Osmanville, where I lost.
Your point about the power of the Sherman tanks is well made. My opponent brought 3 on for Osmanville which gave him a total of 3 senior leaders as well as lots of firepower. I managed to knock out just one of them. A lesson I will consider it for the future - now I'm i/c the British force in the Op Martlet campaign!

Thank you.

Yes the Sherman's fragility to pretty well all the German antitank capabilities are well known and we lost six tanks across the nine battles fought, but despite that the tanks proved formidable against infantry and infantry weapons with their HE and machinegun capability.

Their armour often allowed the US to advance their front and rearward Jump off Points, when confronted with German defensive mortar barrages which allowed the US infantry to deploy much closer to the German positions when those barrages inevitably stopped, thus often negating the barrage resumption because other German troops were too close, trying to fend off the US infantry from grabbing their Jump off Points, at which time the US tanks went over to overwatch ready to add their firepower to any surprise German deployments.

Interesting you mention Martlet, because that is where I would like to take our next efforts.

A great game report. Quite a bloody action, but nice to see the Shermans giving good service.
