Roof Hatch for a building (cheap)
« on: May 18, 2019, 07:33:33 AM »
On another thread there was a question about roof access on a flat roof building. Ainsty do a roof access, but I thought you could easily make one yourself.

Start out by finding one 25mm blank square base and one 20mm square base (slotted or otherwise).

As I do not play Oldhammer, but did use the figures, I have quite a few of these.
The 20mm base does have a moulding pip which needed to be filed flat.

There is writing and ejection marks on the underside of the 25mm base, these were files flat.

Once that was completed, the underside of the 25mm base was liberally coated with liquid poly, and the 20mm base placed inside.

Use a staple or bend up some brass rod for a handle. I also added a handle base plate from Evergreen strip.

The 20mm base raises the hatch above the floor.

Now you can place or perhaps glue the hatch to the roof.

Now I just need to go back and finish off the building.

This is the original blog post on the building. https://ultravanillasmurf.blogspot.com/2012/10/city-block.html
I think glaciers are a bit hasty...

Well, as you mention it.

Okay, it is a Streets of Venice building.

The building was undercoated with Halfords grey spray primer. A coat of Citadel Roughcoat gave some texture. I have run out of that and I am currently using Rustoleum Rust spray paint. The first floor is Citadel Zandri Dust, the lower was undercoated with Halfords Red Primer. The quoins and door and window frames are Citadel Rakash Flesh

The mortar was Army Painter Skeleton Bone and the bricks/tiles are painted individually using a wet palette and Vallejo Black, Hull Red, Burnt Cadmium Red and Red Leather.

It was then dry brushed with Citadel Terminatus Stone and washed with Citadel Agrax Earthshade.

This is a Sarissa small terraced house, having had its Rustoleum Rust undercoat.

This is an Ainsty "Betty's Pie Hut", built as an office.

The building was sprayed with Halford's Grey Spray Primer followed by Citadel RoughCoat textured spray. The bricks were painted with Citadel Zandri Dust. Individual bricks were painted with a combination of Army painter Skeleton Bone, Vallejo Burnt Cadmium Red, Orange Brown, German Camouflage Black Brown, Old Wood and Red Leather using a wet palette. A wash of Citadel Agrax Earthshade brought it all together.

That’s brilliant thank you.
Did you etch the brickwork first on TT combat building or flat paint. Looks great either way.
Happy to buy one now and attempt.

The brickwork is as supplied, laser surface etched. Most of the TT Combat buildings have stone or brick patterns laser etched into the surface.

As long as you do not go overboard with spray, even with a texture spray, the surface etching should remain visible.

Nicely done! Not sure I fancy William’s new female friends. Tell him to avoid the entertainment precinct of Newcastle after dark.  :)

They are rather warmly dressed for the Big Market.
