10mm Terracotta Army
« on: May 19, 2019, 12:31:51 PM »
I met the guys at Dancing Yak Miniatures earlier this year at Cold Wars and we talked about the possibility of a project together. These are some early WiP shots for it: a 10mm Terracotta army. They're going to be my alternate take on undead, instead of skeletons the souls of these warriors are bound to terracotta statues by their masters. These are the spearmen, I'd like to do crossbowmen, calvary, chariots, artillery and maybe some big monsters s well. We're looking for feedback at this point, so thoughts?

Looking good!

A few in our group have discussed this idea.
But in 28mm using standard Chinese models, just painted in a terracotta colour!
I think the ‘hook’ needs to be having the figures looking a bit old and bashed up?

It may be a slightly rubbish film, but the last of the Mummy films (forgot its title) has this theme, so may be worth a watch?
I’m one of the suckers who actually bought it on Blu-ray  lol

Interesting idea Dave. I've been half-considering a Chinese 10mm army for some time.

I'm not sure if personally I would go for terracotta warriors - though painting would be easy! But it is an interesting idea.

That is some nice broken stone texture there, if that translates to the finished models that is going to look great with a bit of wash and drybrush!

The terracotta warriors were originally fully painted when manufactured, so they could be in any state really.  You could have a mix of painted/unpainted terracotta.

Not my scale or genre, but they look absolutely amazing! That texture is particularly impressive.

Dancing Yak is adding some details to the spearmen and planning on doing living Qin Dynasty troops in 28mm. I got the Crossbowmen out of that deal.
