Another great game of CLASH of Spears , the Carthaginian city of Apsis has fallen and chaos takes over the streets.

We zoom into a small action taking place on the eastern quarters...

Clash of Spears is well suited to represent raiding actions, scouting and similar encounters but also to represent small portions of a big conflict taking place.

In particular when the armies have disbanded into random war parties running around in pandemonium.

Although CLASH is great for pick up game we take extra effort to provide good context for the action. It is not just about throwing a few models on the table and rolling dice, the scenarios carefully aim to present interesting tactical problems.

you can see the AAR here : http://www.thewargamespot.com/bloodbath-on-the-streets-of-aspis/

or simply here :)

Nice game! And very interesting background story. I can imagine quite a few scenarios, with desperate last stands... maybe even one where the defenders didn't need to survive at all to win, but just to resist long enough to save as many civilians as possible before they sucumb. That could be epic!

Yes, when the rules come out we plan on maintaining an active community in which players can design scenarios and we can make them available to other players.

Of course we will ask that new scenarios that people design follow the same structure as the standard scenarios, indicating special conditions for the engagement phase, victory conditions and break points leading to force break and stuff like that..

We believe that this will provide great opportunities for gaming if we can convert thematic driven scenarios into something that can be played with ease as a pick up game..

For example this fall of Aspis game would have been done easily as a pick up game on any local club, there are no special army requirements, the terrain was pretty straight forward ...

Are the rules available yet? There's a 'flip-through' of the book in the latest WI, but no details on how to purchase it.

The rules are not out yet.
They will be released in November - December.
The book is written, but we have to make extra efforts to proof read everything, we are also tweaking list balance through playtesting and also tweaking details on the pick up game scenarios to get them as challenging as possible for both sides.

There is more info on the game here: http://www.thewargamespot.com/category/clashofspears/

I'm actually hoping to post the latest AAR this week.

We didn't want to engage on a kickstarter and instead decided to go straight to release so we are taking the time from now till Nov-Dec to clean up the product and deliver the best possible quality and of course it needs to go to print and come back.

I know it requires a bit of patience, but in the meantime we will try to run demos when possible. Next one coming up is Historicon.

regards
Francisco

Like Andrew, the time and care is appreciated. We will just have to live vicariously through your AARs.

Haha... good...

just keep an eye on us. We'll keep posting updates. I want to post some sample armies so that people get an idea of what they could be looking at building, but the system has a lot of flexibility since given the scale of actions troop types restrictions would seem inappropriate..

This means that you'll be able to leverage small forces that you've built for other games like Mortal Gods or maybe SPQR and similar for our game...  It is because of this flexibility that we are trying to do extra work on balance, no system is perfectly balanced but we want to avoid typical shortcomings that you sometimes find in ancient rules, like Roman domination, Gauls shortcomings... At this scale of actions any army should be fun to play and have a good chance of success..

So, I appreciate the patience. We are also eager to see what happens when the rules finally reach the open market...

cheers
