Pirate Ship from Geboom
« on: March 10, 2007, 09:37:20 AM »
Took me a while, but I finally got this pirate ship painted up.
The kit actually comes with 10 cannons and 2 crows nests which I've not painted up yet.

It's a resin model by geboom:

Thanks for showing the painted version Dominic.
Actually you are the first from who I get to see a painted version of one of my boats so far.
The Wood looks well painted.
The glass in the windows are quite blue but I think this is a personal taste.
You might want to try and sharpen the edges of the woodwork of the windows.
In all the ship looks good and is ready to play on. I hope you will assemple the crows nestst as well.
Would be great to see some action photo's

Have fun!

Thanks Geboom.

I am thinking of putting sails on them.  Will have to find a way to make the masts.  I remember you said I could use the long sticks that you can buy in some food stores.  Will have to look at that.

You are right.  The windows are too blue.  What shade of blue did you use for yours?

Keep me posted on the development of your Tortuga castle/fort.  I may want one!

Go for a deeper/darker blue and use the blue you have now for a brush.
It might then even still be to light but just try a dark blue and a lighter blue as brush.
The wooden sticks can be found at most home depots / tool sheds.

The development goes quite well!
Just want it to be perfect so it might take some time still.

Geboom.

One idea is to hit the windowpanes with a heavy dark blue ink wash. The way ink tends to pool at the corners works great for painting old-fashioned windows; Each pane will look brighter in the centre and darker at the edges.

Great ship, by the way.

For windows I usually paint dark blue, followed by mid blue, leaving some of the darker colour at the edges, then a light blue coat then fiinally try a dot of white paint near the corner of each window.

Occasionally if I feel motivated I also gloss varish each window pane. Its time consuming, but looks good.

Nice paint job on the ship, I like the wood finish, very effective. :)

I finally got round to doing up my mast and sails.  I was walking around a local DIY store when I came across these ribbed wooden rods, and I said "Hey - Pirate ship masts!!"  Some sawing, nailing, gluing and wires later:

I like it Dom! Those rods you stumpled across are perfect for the masts.

So, is this the ship for your royal navy or their black flag adversaries?

Thanks guys!

@Operator - I haven't decided yet.  But the colour scheme isn't right for Royal Navy.  It could be an adversary ship, or a captured Brig for my RN chaps.

@Prof - all the guns are resin models that came with the ship!  Really good value for money!

I love those resin canons. They are not as pretty as the metal ones, but if you really want to outfit a fort or something, it would be a cheap and easy way to do it.
