Bone wheel complete 15/06/19
« on: June 02, 2019, 11:43:25 AM »
One piece of terrain that I do not have and do not have a proxy for is the bone wheel.  I have seen several on different forums and though spectacular, either I cannot get the parts to make something similar or they are not robust enough for my tastes.  Here is the start of what I am working.  So far made up of Fomex and a Green Stuff World stacked skull plate.

Step by step on my blog.

Looking good! Some of the pieces I've seen look a little bit too much like the halloween skeletons that they are made from, yours looks more like a proper terrain piece in the right scale.

Just a quick update.  Have used boiling water to bend some of the stacked skulls to make a plinth for the base of the bonewheel to stand on.

Next I have mounted some skellies onto wagon wheels and added clothing for each of the faces.

Letting everything set then I will start building the frame and plinth.
Nope you like.

That's all looking spiffingly macabre!

Mind if I add a link in my Completionist's Guide to your thread, so others can easily find this inspiring work?

Construction of the base is complete.  I still have not decided if I will magnetize the base or build the scaffolding on.

The scaffolding still needs some work but it is close.

I will add some details to the base of the scaffolding and to the base.  as it is looking a bit vacant.

Bone Wheel construction and base coat are done.  The topper is magnetized so the dais can be used as a stand alone structure and I can make different toppers.  It will receive several oil treatments before completion.
Here are the individual components.

Here is the whole structure dry fitted.

Hope you like.

I updated the Scenery Guide to include a link to your thread.

No, no, you don't have to thank me... But I wouldn't say no if you built me one as well! :D
Nahh just kidding, but seriously well done!

When I first read the scenario, I struggled with the concept. I couldn't picture anything that wouldn't look silly, yours looks incredible and it makes sense! I hope I can do one for myself sometime soon.

Pretty much done.  Oils have been applied and felt has been added to the underside of the flat surfaces.  Have to wait a couple of days before I can seal it up.

If you are interested in the individual steps they are on my blog.

Hope you like.
