W.I.P WW2 us force (20mm)
« on: June 04, 2019, 01:03:20 PM »
Hi,

Finally I have a bit of hobby time these days, so I came back to my WW2 us force. Figures are Valiant (big 20mm).

For now I have a complete platoon almost completed, and on the bench some artillery and mortars.

I'm not totally satisfied with the result, I get lost in detailing these, and sadly you can barely see the efforts  lol But anyway, I will finish them and next I will find a more eficient painting routine.

I still need to complete the weapons and skin.

Great so far!  I like Valiant a lot but they are actually 1/64. I have a couple of diecast metal M3 half tracks in that scale that I plan to use with my Valiant US, and may have a couple of trucks and jeeps 3d printed in 1/64 too.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

figures painted: 57
9 vehicles painted
4 terrain pieces scratchbuilt

thanks !

personaly I don't care much about their size, I'm using 1/72 vehicles with them. THe only thing I oversized a bit (3D print) are the jeeps.

I'll continue painting tonight. In the mean time, here's some vehicles and artillery I plan to add to my force (missing a couple of armourfast m10 I forgot to take picture of).

Some 3D printing here, in ABS. I choosed this material since it allows you to smooth the model surface with acetone (see the shermans, where the treatment is done). THe issue is that it causes wrapping (borders tends to rise). But I can live with that, I still prefer the smooth finish of abs compared to PLA wich is simplier to print but not as easy to improve.

They look really great, Valiant take a lot of criticism  but your painted figures show that they are more than adequate for gaming with. I might even pick up some boxes at Sittingbourne tomorrow.

A friend of mine uses Valiant too, he uses Armourfast vehicles as they seem to fit them quite well, plus Raventhorpe metal figures can fill any gaps.

Yes the valiant minis are nice little models. THe  british and normandy german are especially nice and crisp.

The size "problem" doesn't bother me. ;)

The figures look great. Haven't Valiant 're-sized' their figures recently to 1/72?

Or are these the older figures? Or, are the re-sized figures still big?

thanks !

They resized only the german infantry set, as far as I know. These americans are from the original figures set.

I see, thanks for the clarification. I'm working through some ABs at the moment but I am looking for supplementary figures.

Figures are completed, I textured the bases. In the same time I added texture on (half painted) support weapons bases.

Here's some bad night light pics :
