Fistful of Lead Wasteland Warriors AAR
« on: June 05, 2019, 03:37:59 PM »

Wiley Games are soon to be releasing the Wasteland Warriors supplement for the excellent Fistful of Lead series of skirmish games. :)

Having been a fan of the Fistful of Lead series for sometime and been  involved in the recent Tales of Horror supplement we have been very fortunate to be able to play test Wasteland Warriors ahead of its publication.

Here is a simple scenario involving two rival gangs who are scavenging for supplies in an abandoned village.
The gangs primary focus is to find ammunition for their weapons. Bullets and fuel are always in short supply. A common feature in FFoL is if your figure rolls a one you gun is empty and you need to reload. In the the Wasteland Warriors supplement this means you are out of ammo for the entire game unless you can find some bullets quick!

Ahead of the game each side placed some objective markers, in this instance barrels and crates which could contain supplies of ammunition. One aspect of Wasteland Warriors for campaign games involves finding supplies, keeping hold of them and trading them later for better equipment, etc.

Each gang made for their first objective marker, but it wasn't long before the shooting started and all Hell let loose! The punks eventually came out on top with three surviving members. There would have been one more if the unfortunate soul hadn't got in the way of his mates flamethrower ;) lol

Looks fun  :)
I have been looking at the Fistful rules for a while now. I see there are specific card packs for each supplement but my question is does one set fit all or do you need to purchase them all?
Thanks

In this instance we used the Galactic Heroes deck as the cards for Wasteland Warriors have not been printed yet.
The cards are the same in Galactic Heroes and Tales of Horror and I believe will be the same for Wasteland Warriors. Its just the artwork on the cards that is different. Its themed around the genre of the supplement to give period flavour.

You can use a regular deck of ordinary playing cards which is what we did to start with until we were familiar with the game. Certain cards in the deck have special actions that can be used when the card is played. An example could be the six (any suit). This is a free reload card which when played enables one figure to reload his weapon for no additional activation cost. If you play with the official deck then the card has Reload printed on it and a nice drawing of a weapon. Using an ordinary deck you just have to remember what specific cards do.

The decks for the original FFoL and the Horse and Musket version are slightly different though.

I hope that helps.

Nick beat me to it. Yes, you can use an ordinary deck of cards.
If you want to try the rules out without a big monetary investment, the pdfs are in the $7 range. If you decide they're or you, then you can invest in the printed books and cards.

Game looked good and the figures look excellent; quality paintjobs. Wasteland Warriors is going to be fun!

Just on the cards thing, I played the original fistful of Lead for years with a normal pack of cards but I have bought packs of the genre specific ones because:

A) there's something satisfying about using the cards with the genre artwork;
B) as others have said, the cards help players who may not be as familiar with the rules remember what the cards do (this is invaluable in bigger games and games at cons, etc); and
C) they're cool!

The FoL game system is really good, and the games are FUN. This "period" looks really interesting, and I have those same figures waiting in a box for a new opportunity...

Lovely to see those Snapdragon buildings and bits. Always reminds me of the early Fallout games. Great set up.
