Shoggoth
« on: May 30, 2019, 12:36:35 AM »
I've added a new Shoggoth model to the North Star Horror range:

It's a resin model with a couple of metal tentacles.

If you're talking about this thread http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=117186.0 you're not doing much for your street cred as a Mythos fan.  :)

Sculpt's way too small for a Shoggie in my book, but it'd be a useful Chaos Beast in 13th Age or D&D.

I'm not a big Mythos fan. The names leave me baffled. Played CoC back in the day, always as a player not a GM so was just a casualty of various entities .

Read a small number of Lovecrafts books, so very familiar with the creatures met in those but not everything else.

Gug. Yes, knew the look, never met the monster LOL. Attached is an illustration by my chum T Ackland.

The main drive to doing these Cthulhu creatures is to go with Dracula's America 'Forbidden Power'. The author introduces a number of Lovecraft beasties to the game, and the shoggoth (Gibbering Spawn) is one of them. It has to fit on a 50mm round base in the game. To do a pulsing amoeba  the size of a subway train would just be over kill for a Cowboy Skirmish game, I was never going to do that.  lol

You say that now.  Two years down the road Drac's America randomly goes big, starts outselling 40K and MtG put together, and player demand leads you to have to start casting not only subway-car-sized Shoggies but armed locomotives to fight them with.  :)

I could see Weird West big battles catching on, although there's a Wild West Exodus version of the concept in the works.  Great Rail Wars was a big deal locally for us back in the day, although I don't think it did all that well elsewhere.

As some other LAF memebers know, I've just finished hundreds of ACW figures. It feels like an easy jump to have them led by Vampires and Necromancers next  lol
