Is it the one with the French plantation?

I thought it was far too long and had no particular interest.

With any luck they cut the tedious added shit in Redux.  The original cinema cut is the much better of the two (now three?).The funny thing about that film is that you can fairly precisely identify the John Milius parts of the script with the stuff added/pinched from Michael Herr. Luckily for the film as a whole, it seems Milius was saving his best work for his real masterpiece, Red Dawn.

What is the difference between Redux and Final Cut?

From what I've worked out thus far the plantation scene and the stealing the surf board scene are in, while the wrecked camp and the sunsequent playboy girls scene are out. It's newly restored from the original print, the sound has been upgraded to Dolby Atmos and it's 4k quality.

I'm happy to have the chance to see it on the big screen again, first chance for me since '79.

Indeed. The movie is in my Top 5 of all time and i have both versions (the late '70's cinema & Redux) on DVD. I prefer the first one but the Redux version has it's moments too. That movie eventually led to me deciding to start a second project Da Nam about 10 years ago. ;-)

It is interesting (at least to me) to see how much people opinions differ. I rate that movie as pure crap. I cannot stand all the inaccuracies.  Even the helicopter assault does not make any sense. IT is just Coppola megalomania. It would have been interesting to see a real adaptation of heart of darkness, rather than an hollywood pastiche.  For what is worth, the only positive thing of the movie... is having been inspired the helicopter attack in Gate...  lol

You're right it is interesting. I really enjoy it andit's a film I watch at least once a year. Once you come to terms with it not really being a Viet Nam film nor is it anything more than a passing resemblance to HoD it's easier to enjoy. My fave Viet Nam cinema is "Wildfield" and "Vin Linh Steel Rampart".  8)

Only the North Korean remake of Red Dawn takes the prize here.
