Long shot; Yom Kippur war figs in 28mm?
« on: June 21, 2019, 10:25:15 AM »
Guessing there's none out there?

I'm aware of the old Mongrel sculpts but they're more 80's iirc?

Cheers!

The mongrel sculpts are indeed 1980s with M16 and Galil, you want something with FN FAL. We, greedy, complaining, and unsatisfied wargamers  lol,  have been promised them from different sources but nothing for now. On the plus side, except some limited situations the 73 wars did not lend itself well to 28mm  gaming.

Yeah, i suspected as much. Might have to venture over to 20mm and see if there's anything there (Liberation, I'd guess are likely to be the only game in town, if even he's got anything?)

I'm quite happy with the idea of 6 or 15mm for the armour clashes, I was reading about some of the commando actions and the mix of kit was appealing, as was the change in aesthetic from other more modern collections.

Maybe if I win the lottery I'll have a range sculpted  ;D

even in 20mm the balance is for Lebanon.... :(  I think smaller unit, combine arms actions attracted more sales.  RH models liberation are the only one doing 73. But having seen their troops in the lead, they are quite nice! Tempted me back to 20mm.

If you are prepared to do 20mm, there is the old Platoon 20 figures

Didn’t Foundry once flirt with some 20mm figures for this? (Or have I imagined it? Might be wishful thinking!)

Sadly there's not much available unless you want to game in 15mm. RH Models have a range in 20mm, but he's difficult to reach unless you're in the UK, and the Platoon 20 range is showing it's age. Wartime Miniatures have recently previews some cracking figures, however they're intended for Lebanon 1982.

I've turned to 6mm to game 1967 & 1973. The scale lends itself to mass armour battles across the desert and GHQ make some fantastic kit.

If you're really keen you could talk to Matt at Elhiem, he's already done a range for 1982 and is always open to discussing commissions. I know I'd be excited to see him do a range for 1967/1973.

If you fancy 15mm, Khurasan do an excellent range.

If you are set on 28mm, you might get by using Eureka Rhodesians and Brits with head swaps as proxies. You can always add backpacks using the Perry WW2 range. There’s another thread showing Eureka figures with Empress French Indochina heads.

I too would like to see Yom Kippur figs in 28mm or the 67 war come to that. I've got the Mongrel 1980's IDF, PLO and Syrians and they were cracking figures. Had a few brilliant games where PLO and Syrian sagar teams were hunting IDF armour in the Bekaa Valley. Anyway, if only Mr Hicks could be persuaded to make some 73 or 67 figures. That would be something else! Nobody does the 1948 war either and that is full of potential for small scale actions.

The October War or the Seven Day’s War would both be well served in 28mm - but mostly for painting. I think the scale of the wars lends itself better to much smaller figure scale, 6mm is ideal.
