AKULA’s Flooded Apocalypse (pg2 Cargo Containers)
« on: June 23, 2019, 07:42:51 PM »
A flooded board is something that I’ve been thinking about for some time, but I finally decided to take the plunge...

Basic premise is that sea levels have risen and society has broken down....no aliens, zombies or mutants .... just people trying to survive.

Inspiration-wise I’m a fan of the freakangels graphic novels, but I may struggle to keep Waterworld on endless repeat, so I’m always looking out for material.

First up is a test-piece.... it’s meant to be a lookout/perimeter post for a larger “settlement”.... still needs plenty more work.

I’m not happy with the wooden platform...the edges are too crisp...think I’ll add some texture to the mdf, plus it needs more clutter, but that’s the whole point of a test-piece....you get the idea.

Figure is from my Apocalypse Isle project...this particular chap is now available from Crooked Dice in their Post-Apocalypse range.

The rooftop is from TT Combat, and the Tent is from Crooked Dice, as is the shotgun on the table. Chair is from Ainsty, and the boat plus much of the clutter is from my own Apocalypse Isle project, although I’m currently accumulating a pile of stuff from TT Combat, Fenris Games, Black Cat Bases amongst others.

Liking the concept but I would most definitely recommend using balsa (or even, horror of horrors) coffee stirrers for any exposed wood structures you do  8)
cheers

Cheers all - glad you like the idea

Yup...I was toying with using high density card, but I’ll get some balsa...it was more a case of using what was lying around for the test piece...and the mdf flooring was left over from the kit that I’d pinched the roof from.

Love it, particularly the pulled up boat and the rusty metal level. Dammit, I didn't need any temptation to start anything new (mutters as he eyes large collection of boats in cupboard).

I'm with Oshiro on the coffee stirrers. Easy to bring out the texture and they respond really well to basic washes.

It's not big, or clever, but let's do it anyway

A very cool project, looking forward to seeing more.

The idea for this piece is great, with the platform on the roof. The metal work looks suitably weathered and worn, but I think the roof and platform could do with some more. Perhaps try some green 'tide' marks on the roof, where plants / moss / slime is growing at the edge of the water line?

No worries mate. It is, as you say, a test after all  :)

Go on...you know you want to - your Junktown is inspirational...would love to see what you could do with the water theme.

Already ordered - will definitely incorporate in whatever I come up with next.

Me too .... unlike most of my projects I haven’t sketched out a definitive idea of where this is going to go.

 :D

Perhaps try some green 'tide' marks on the roof, where plants / moss / slime is growing at the edge of the water line?

Definitely part of what I have in mind - I haven’t added any yet though, as I haven’t decided whether I want the buildings attached to the base boards...easier to store if they are separate but I think there is more I can do with slime/flotsam etc if there are integral.

No worries mate. It is, as you say, a test after all  :)

Cheers - might tweak the platform...scribe in some texture and rough up the edges a bit...hmmm..guess I can ponder that while I’m away for work this week.

Various bits and bobs in piles on my desk, but in the meantime I’ve redone the test piece, specifically the wooden platform, replacing it with wooden coffee stirrers.

Thanks all for the feedback - I’m very happy with the results
