1/50 Leopard (SIKU)
« on: June 27, 2019, 08:30:30 PM »
Does anybody have any experience with this model please:

It looks to have potential with an up-graded paint job.

Cheers
Gareth

Is the gun that short as shown in the lower photograph?

I know there was an urban combat version between the A6 and the A7 with a short gun, but that looks very short.

could be an A5, with the L/44 gun but the added turret armor that makes the guns appears shorter (actually the turret extends in front of the mantlet).

I think the Empress model is a nicer version anyhow

The Siku is an A5, hence the shorter barrel, same one as the A4 but the wedge armour on the turret front makes it look shorter. Empress is, I believe the A6 model, which actually introduced a new, longer barrelled, 120mm gun.

I don’t have the Siku Leopard but I will attest to the general quality of their kit and they tend to be scale accurate with their larger stuff.

That's good to know if I ever decide to add some allied Germans to the BAOR collection.

Too late for the Cold War. Last Leopard 2 iteration that saw any service pre fall of the Wall was the A4 IIRC. A5 was introduced well after.

True ... they started to build the Leopard 2A4 in December 1985. So it was still pretty new and sparkly at the time the wall came down.

It is a nice toy. Full metal and quite heavy. If you redo the paint job, add some chippings and dust you should have a very decent and quite accurate model. Plus, if you lose a game you can still throw it at your opponent for considerable damage.  ;)

There is a bit of a gap between the turret and the hull which did not look right to me so I added a thick plastic disk to fill. I never did finish it properly though.

The Empress one is £26 and the cheapest I can find the SIKU is £25.46... I'd go with Empress :)
