Diecast in 1/43 and 1/48
« on: June 28, 2019, 10:30:35 PM »
Is the difference with diecast "street level" cars in 1/43 and 1/48 minimal, to not be too noticeable on the tabletop? I have a bunch of 1/43 cars already for scenery dressing, but was eyeing a vehicle that was 1/48. Figured someone here would set me straight.

1/48 would be 10% smaller - but that's just rough math, not experience.

Noticeable IMO but dependent on the vehicle. Some vehicles we seem to think of as bigger/smaller at whim. Then there’s the fact that quite a lot of diecast vehicles aren’t accurately scaled anyway. ‘Fit the box’ is often their most accurate description.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the responses.

Eeesh.....sounds like an expensive crap shoot to partake in, especially if it's ordering online. Scale's a funny thing. I have a Maisto Acura RSX in my box of diecast and the bottom says 1/36, but it looks bang on compared to the Welly NYPD cruiser I have which is 1/43. Go figure

Whenever I take my granddaughter shopping, I  always use the opportunity to scan the toy cars, its amazing what you can find for just a few pounds.

I'm in agreement with you Lord Raglan. Years back, Canada had a department store called Zellers and when my daughter would go to the "pink aisle" for Barbie stuff, I'd take the opportunity to scan the piles of Maisto cars they always had for sale for just $2.99. The majority of my collection is from those days.

I had a few 1/43 vehicles but eventually got rid of them all as far too big. However, they would have been perfect with 40mm figures.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.
