Wind and the Lion figure options
« on: June 29, 2019, 07:28:02 PM »
Okay Hivemind,

What are the Tuareg-Berber options for gaming this movie/genre? Aware of Unfeasibly Miniatures range and like them from the pics. Know of Foundry's limited selection of Arabs in their Egyptian range. Not a fan of Askari. I seem to recall a thread about OG possibly producing WatL as a range but don't think that initiative gained traction.

Your inputs?

Thx, Bill

Artizan do a very small range of North Africans, including Moroccans and one pack of Tuareg.

They also do Arabs for the Arab Revolt in their WW1 range. I know they aren't quite right, being Arabs from Arabia rather than North African Berbers, but sometimes you have to go with the best you can manage, considering there isn't a massive amount in the way of options.

Edit: Apologies to traveller. I somehow missed that he already mentioned Artizan.

The Virtual Armchair General has a range that pretty much covers all you could need.

I've given it some thought and if I jumped, I'd buy in.

No worries, repetition is the mother of learning  ;)

Billk, if you want to do the US Marines assault on the palace, Old Glory has a great set of Marines

BillK, based on the mfgrs you mention I will assume you are going with 25/28mm?

That being said when I did this game I sourced figs from ALL over!

Castaway Arts make Berbers and Tuaregs, as well as Sepahis to use as the Bashaws foot guard. I also used both Castaway Arts Old Glory Arab cavalry from their FFL ranges for the grand cavalry charge at the begging of the closing battle scene. For foot troops I used Castaway, Old Glory, and one pack of Askari Tuareg with rifles.

Take a look at my blog for figure and game pics. Feel free to contact me with any questions. Me and my buddy are getting ready to run (3) TWATL games at a con late next year. We are still working on the palace attack game.

Everyone, thanks for all the great input!

This project stems from our recent Mafrica campaign (game 4 coming soon) and all players once again enjoying some TSATF gaming. One idea the group had for continuing with some TSTAF gaming is a Wind and the Lion themed game. Will let you know how this all plays out.

Thanks again,
Bill

p.s. for those who don't know, Mafrica is the ficticious continent dreamed up by Jack Scruby for his Colonial gaming efforts.

Hu Rhu, you are correct! I'd forgotten about that fig. My buddy the Mad Guru gave me one of those figs. Very nice indeed.
