Evil Dave's Austro-Hungarian Aeronef
« on: July 01, 2019, 08:04:30 PM »
I picked up some Austro-Hungarian Aeronef cheap at the start of the year on eBay. My buddy Matt and I intend on playing some games with them. He has, in fact, procured the age old enemies of the Austro-Hungarians, the Japanese. We're likely going to bash a few rule sets together into something that's quick and fun.

I've got a few more things left to build (battleships, fixed wings and a carrier) but this is the lion's share of them. Just a simple base, wash and drybrush. I've got a few details left to do but I don't think I'm going to go full orange Eldar on these.

I will be watching with interest as I was going to invest in some AH.

Of course, everyone remembers the legendary rivalry between the Austro-Hungarians and the Japanese.  lol

Is one of your vessels commanded by Fregattenkapitän August Ritter von Trapp ?  A very melodious gentleman, I'm sure.

Don't  get me started on that guy, Metternich. He always all "look at how many Japanese 'nefs I sank!". Can't stand him.

Actually, I started with opposing carrier fleets of Japanese and Austro-Hungarian too!

It is a well established rivalry.

Still need to get them painted though...  Trimming is all done, and basing materials have been acquired.

Work continues on the Aeronef. The decks got their base coat and wash, and I managed to paint the highlights on five of them.

I also took one to completion, it got its funnel, turrets, windows and colors done up. Like I said before, I'm not looking to go overboard with these. Just a serviceable, table-top paint job.

I finished up the gun barrels and windows this week. Just the funnel, colors and touch ups left to go.

Awhile back, I picked up an AH vs. Italian set, and a friend painted up the Hapsburg fleet, but the other side is still waiting for livery. Until then, I've been thinking of trying a friend's Germans, assuming the Prussian/AH war didn't end so 'amicably...' ;->=

I'd actually thought my lads would have been in White and Gold, and Italians would have mostly green, having crossed my wires, the friend ended up painting a fleet not dissimilar to yours. Best laid plans and all that.

Yours are VERY handsome indeed, but hope you'll be sure to grace us with fleet dispatches soon!

Thanks guys.

I didn't get much time to paint this past week so all I got done were the funnels and the white for the colors. I'm hoping to get to the red on them this weekend so I can start in on the last few turrets for the Epic tournament in Scotland next month.
