My unpainted figures are stored in those DIY multicompartment boxes (some for many years!). My painted and based ones I am now gradually moving over to 9 litre RUB with different Sally 4th inserts as appropriate. The 9 litre RUB will become my standard as it is deep enough for upright standards and pikes and vehicles, while not being too big or heavy.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

2019 Painting Challenge :
figures bought: 500+
figures painted: 57
9 vehicles painted
4 terrain pieces scratchbuilt

I used the Scottish Figures In Comfort bags and storage boxes. They were size compatible with the old GW cases.

I did buy two of the new Figures In Comfort Really Useful Boxes with inserts at Colours last year.

Four layers in a 9 litre box.

I do have three of the small plastic boxes, which are great for small teams.

They are suitable for larger figures (this box normally holds my Malifaux Perdita crew).

I am not sure which of the plastic boxes are still available under the new management.

I store minis in jewelry display boxes. They are roughly 9"x18" and come in different depths up to 3." I get mine from Nile Jewelry on the internet. They cost anywhere from US$2-4 each.  You can also get inserts which are divided into compartments (US$1+).  Dave's Baggage Train also has them up to 6" (US$20!) deep.
They call me "Point Cow"
