28mm Tank Field Camouflage Netting
« on: July 04, 2019, 07:54:30 PM »
Evening boys, has anyone used this product on their 28mm modern tanks:

I want to model my 1/48 scale Centurions with camo nets down the side of the vehicle.

That looks a bit like Plasterboard Scrim Tape, I can't imagine it would be that flexible - could be wrong.

I've always used medical gauze, dirt cheap and available in any chemist.
It's very light weight just dunk it in a mix of watered down PVA and some paint, then plonk it on and press it into place. Once dry it will set hard.

On a couple of very old 40K tanks:

Yep, without actually having used the product, I reckon Ash is right. Probably good for a deployed net but doesn’t look flexible enough to hang off a tank. Gauze is your best bet.

I did buy a net a few years ago that was made of fabric (soz can’t recall the maker) but that was essentially dyed gauze and not really worth the mark up. Was too small really for the purpose. A roll of medical gauze on the other hand gives you lots to play with.

Cheers guys, your advice is much appreciated

My Centurions are 3D printed, so I reckon the net will help to hide some of the printing layers

Yagree with the others, I do like the little bag of leaves though, that looks interesting.

I have this material, though haven't used it. The netting is made from plastic and whilst not overly stiff, is too tough to easily drape over a tank. Its intended as the cover for a free standing structure I suspect rather than a looser material. As Ash said your best bet is to buy some bandages.

The leaves are a nice addition. I've used them in the past on terrain and vehicles. I would warn that they do lose their dye if wet, so avoid using pva glue with them or the colour may run - as I found out when adding them to some snow I'd made.

The Little Leaf Company does larger packs of them. I bought mine from Greenscene.

They have been identified as catkins if you want to make your own.

I have not had any trouble with bleed on PVA, but I was not working with snow. Bits left outside overnight did "bleach" though, so best to varnish them just in case.

A tip picked up here on LAF. Leaf debris under silver birch trees.
Collect it up, I got 4 plastic food tubs full last year & still have
most of it left. Great as is for autumnal & when firmly fixed on
(I use watered down wood glue) is a doddle to dry brush for
those spring/summer leaf colours.

Those leaves are also freely available from Birch trees (catkins/seed pod things), just pick the time of year. Dry them out and they will all turn brown, then chuck a load in a zip lock type baggy with some watery paint, give it a good shake. Then spread them out over some foil or baking paper and stick them in the oven to dry out.
