BA - North Koreans. Plastic or tin?
« on: July 05, 2019, 06:54:40 PM »
Ahoy folks, long time lurker, short time poster. Was just wondering if the Norks coming from Warlord are plastic or metal, as I've a mind to use them for some ImagiNations rather than Korea itself. Any word?

They look plastic with probably some metal weapons teams like the DShK (as with the ones most of the Bolt Action range come in). If they're plastic then they'd come as a multi part kit with a weapons sprue - which is where I presume the SKS in the other thread came from (and are optional).

Yeah, the poses look similar to their metal ranges. Which if that's the case is a pity. There's a concerning lack of figures armed with SKS in 28mm, so a weapons sprue would have been handy for other conflicts.

There is a whole (locked) thread here.

One of the lines of discussion was the absence (or otherwise) of SKS carbines in the Korean War.

No plastics for Korea. Officially confirmed.
And you gonna have to buy your choppers elsewhere, too.

I'll have too make do with whatever limited number of models armed with SKS Warlord does come out with then. Yes, it seemed odd that they were including that gun - and I'd assumed that they were only doing so as it was an excuse to put them on a weapon's sprue. Just as nobody else makes SKS so a few loose ones would be gold for all sorts of conflicts.

If they're metal however they're far more limited. No just taking the gun off and plunking them on a random figure. Oh well. :(

TAG do loose SKS rifles ;-)

I should have prefaced - rifles which actually look like SKS. ;)

TAG do a few sets of figures armed with SKS or Type 56. However their actual soldiers are far too chunky for my tastes and the loose rifles aren't sculpted that well either. With Warlord, even if the guns are a bit big and lack details, at least they're of a standard. Ideally we'd see 3D sculpted weapons, but barely anyone sells those separately for a fear of piracy from other companies (though despite the amount of money which goes into these sculpts, how often piracy at a commercial level actually happens is something I'd like to see figures for. As I only have a few first hand accounts and even then it seemed small scale).

I'd recommend a degree of caution when using the word Norks, as residents of the southern hemisphere may mistake your meaning:

Welcome to Australia, where pretty much anything can be a term for breast.

Or vomiting, fornicating, defecating and avoiding work. :)

Leaving aside the strine reference to mammaries, I would have thought we would moved beyond using labels culled from 1970s war comics. Well, most of us have.

Yes, when used in this context - which I hadn't encountered previously - it suggests that the troops in question - aside from living under the most oppressive regime on the planet - have green skin, pointed ears, tusks and, no doubt, bad breath. Not much in their favour, really.
