Sci-fi Dwarves for Macrocosm Miniatures
« on: July 07, 2019, 08:26:30 PM »
Im starting work on a range of sci-fi dwarves for Macrocosm Miniatures. They’re going to be an eclectic bunch, some with a B-movie vibe, others reminiscent of the time bandits.
This is the first one, with another two coming soon.

They look very promising for a Retro Sci-fi setting.

Strange to see them return to Sci-Fi Dwarves after they sold off the Digger range?

Ah well, I like what you've done so far!

It's a lovely sculpt :) .

It is a bit too caricaturised for my personal tastes but a unit of these, for a pulp setting will look very cool :) .

I think that Macrocosm wanted to steer away from the grim-dark setting they were aiming at and go a little more boutique. The Diggers were almost Squats but had some proportion issues (tiny heads, massive helmets and some spindly arms on the bikers)... so why not sell them on and take a different approach? It makes sense to me :) .

I'm thinking along the lines of a Retro Raygun type setting, with Hydra Miniatures as opponents, so the aesthetic could be ideal for that.

I kind of like the little fella.
Thought him to be a Gnome/Halfling type sub species before you  said he was a dwarf.
But like him nonetheless.

The second Sci-fi dwarf for Macrocosm Miniatures . He’s got a detector device or maybe a detonator. Five more on the way.

I love that scene. Now I’ll be singing it for the rest of the day :)

They are a bit less, ah, squat than I usually expect out of Dwarves.  More "tallfellow" ratling or gnome "giant space hamster rancher" types.  Still nice sculpts, and I suppose there have to be quite a variety of body types in abhuman species, especially ones raised in different gravity fields.

That detonator thing absolutely has to be painted as a literal Big Red Button, of course.

I personally prefer these to the more squat dwarves often seen.

Any idea of when the Kickstarter might be going live?

Thank you.
I’m not too sure. I’ve got another five to make, maybe more. So it’ll be late August at the earliest.
