Thistle & Rose Miniatures (USA) are bringing back the old Vendel range into circulation:

Colonel Bill's also got a range started up - see 'D'Arlo Figures' in his online shop - made by the Vendel's old sculptor I believe:
http://shop.colonelbills-store.co.uk/

I've always liked the Vendel/T&R figures as I find them very easy to paint up, with a lot of variation in poses, kit, weapons, etc.

As for rules - it seems The Pikeman's Lament (Osprey) has some potential but I've not tried them yet, but I did use Lion Rampant/Dragon Rampant (also Osprey) and they were great fun to play with for a gang-vs-gang skirmish.

Another set I would mention is 'StrongSword' from Westfalia - ostensibly fantasy, but I'm drawing up my own version for Border Reivers. A bit of a work-in-progress still, but I love the 'battle-stance' aspect of these rules and think that would work perfectly in this era:

Thanks for all your help guys. Now back from holiday. Going to go for Pikemans Lament, although would look at Strong Sword as well. Will go for a selection of figures from different manufacturers as they all look nice and I do like a variety of styles. Will post photos as I progress.

As for rules, Osprey's En Garde rules work very well for Border Reivers (including having some lists for them)

Hoka Hey are not just nice figures, but the people at the 'shop' are nice
to deal with as well.  I wanted some 'empty horses' for the skirmish game
I am planning. They sorted it out for me.

Terryb - happy to help - I reckon once you have a few gangs painted and based, you could actually try all these rules, just to see which set gets you the best game you're looking for. If you need any more info, do ask away - I live in the 'Forgotten Lands' just on the edge of the 'Debateable Lands' on the Border, so can provide you a few tips on the lie of the land, quite literally  ;)

Again, thanks for all the information. Love that piece on the buildings and local area LCpl McDoom. Received the George Macdonald Fraser book yesterday and looking forward to reading that

If you search for Games Workshop Empire or Estalian miniatures you will also find suitable miniatures for the late 16th centuey

Horcata, although beautiful figures, are a little late for Border Reivers (17th century, vice 16th).

This is an English contingent.  Figure size became an issue when mixing/matching from different sources:

Left to right;
Outpost, Hoka Hey, Hoka Hey, Outpost , Reiver gun. The foot are a mix of Outpost, Warrior and Eureka.  The smallest are Warrior and by far the biggest Hoka Hey.
"The time has come." The walrus said, "To talk of many things..."

I have a number off Outpost Miniatures which are good for skirmish games as they do mounted and foot versions of some of their figures. They are a bit smaller than other ranges though.

Thanks for posting that pic Cameronian.  Its relatively rare to see how different ranges look next to each other, and very helpful to see before buying.
