Update on some sculpting. Made a little progress on my new version of Super Salad. Need to sit down and noodle out the weapon situation. Also, add a couple pouches on the belt line.

The original figure had a cape, but I didn't think it was dramatic enough, so I gave him a high collar look

And a comparison to the original sculpt. I definitely didn't like the weird boy scout neckerchief, so that is gone. Also, the odd mechanical arm thing and thigh high boots are gone. Upgraded codpiece and breast plate, and a more dynamic pose. Came out pretty well in terms of scale.

Hoping to wrap him up this week and give him some paint. I'll probably finish up a couple little additions for him, and get a couple new dollies made up for crew members Ant and Decaf. Right now they are space goats, but I'm thinking that they may get a complete figure overhaul and turn them into a couple different races. Ant is my team's trader and collector (and sharpshooter) so I think he may need to be sculpted with a large pack of some sort. Maybe he needs to be a bit centaur-ish with quadrupedal locomotion and a torso with arms. Decaf is currently sculpted with a heavy weapon, so I think I may try to make him something more like a cyborg/servitor with a heavy weapon.

And here is a look at Bubba the space goat 2.0.

Still need to do some work on the rifle to clean it up and make it look less boxy overall. I imagine that some of that work will just be done with a file.

Debating whether I want to add a backpack of some sort to the belt pouches, or leave him more "Wookie" and just a big fur ball.

Comparison to Bubba 1.0.

On the whole, I like the updates. I like the bighorn sheep horns rather than the pokey little goat horns. Still going to be the same pink color though. I'm going to start my next two sculpted replacements tonight. At least get wire frames done and some putty on to start firming up the structure.

Guys (CookAndrew and War Monkey both)

At this rate of improvement the next generations of figures will definitely be  cast-worthy.  If not now, then soon.

At that point you should see about offering a few of them to manufacturers and see who takes them off your hands and produces them.  Get your foot in the door.

If I ever make a figure worth casting I'm not sure I could let it out of my hands! lol

Probably just sit around in a dark corner of my house calling it my Precious and asking my wife to bring me some fish.

I love the superhero Cook, one of your best yet  ;) Will you be adding a mask ?

Guys keep in mind what I did with the 3 eyed lizards.
Follow the link for the explanation.

If you make a base model that you like , it would be a shame not to make a press mould. Not necessarily to sell
but it will save you a lot of time & give you repeatability.

Thanks for sharing
Keep it up

Z- I'm still working on sorting a body shape that will work well for push molds. I would like to do something similar and cast up a mess of "bad guys" to somewhat simplify my enemy selection. Whatever it is, I'm thinking the equivalent of storm troopers or Cylons. Something where everyone has the same basic uniform and I can toss them out there as cannon fodder for some evil empire

Actually, I think something like a Vogon soldier from the 2005 Hitchhiker's Guide movie would work pretty dead on for my purposes.

I mean, they are basically already shaped like a potato, and sculpting on sets of arms/weapons on a potato body (particularly with that weird box volley gun) would be a snap. I'm going to work up a couple base models this weekend and see what floats my boat.

I like this image as a basis:

Detail of the weapon:

Looks similar to Dan's stop motion penguin guys, but lumpier. Maybe there is a happy medium to be struck there in creating a standard enemy troop.

Should also be easy enough to sculpt a little extra flair onto a squad leader or officer. I could probably even make a single weapon and recast that in a push mold.

To keep them from eating their leaders!  lol

That's it I need to make a group of fodder for everyone to pick on!

Ugly futters indeed....
The more reason to use them as cannon fodder ;)

Just a thought... imagine we humans meet the most friendly/intelligent aliens in the galaxy & they're also the scariest/ugliest/smelliest !!!

What would be our reaction? Would we accept them?

At a convention, perhaps?  :)
