Thanks, Dan.

I'm currently working on a new batch of baddies in the form of a robot society. Maybe something like the Dalek, they are a race that used to be human but decided to shed their biological forms in favor of something more robust. Rather than cram everyone into a single mechanical frame, the society kept some flavor of its backwards roots and the robot bodies all look a bit bobbled together.

Functionally, the bots are built by push molding an upper and lower half. Pop them out of the molds, glue them together, then sculpt a couple little embellishments on and call it a day. I've got the first five primed for painting and three more in the push molds. They are rather tiny, which works for what they are, but I also wanted to goof around with smaller scale sculpting work as I'm giving some consideration for a 6mm project and wanted to see how rough it would be to sculpt some smaller figures.

Hey, Ock, good to see you!

Speaking of sculpts, I have the next three figures in my "evil empire" faction completed. As a reminder, these all use the same body (blue stuff push mold) and have various details sculpted on after the body is pulled and cleaned up.

I give you my unit commander and his elite guards:

The commander had the bubble mask removed and a face sculpted on. The Elite guards had various armor items sculpted over the base body.

Rear view:

The elite guards are meant to have a force field projector on their backs, while the unit commander has a communications pack.

And the three different unit types together:

You can see the Commander has a single barrel version of the standard trooper's weapon, while the elite soldiers have a weapon that combines a poleaxe and a slug weapon.

Next up will be a pair of heavy weapon troops, and I'm in the middle of sculpting the supreme sector commander for this faction. He is even a bit taller than the others, will be maskless, and will be adorned in all kinds of ridiculous ceremonial garb. He will be the one figure that isn't based on the standard body.

Glad you like, Ock. Dan, here are the floaty hoverbot faction. First four off the assembly line.

I have another four in the works. I bought some basing material just for this group, so I'll get that added over the weekend, perhaps. I have some new sculpts to toss up tomorrow.

Dan,

They are stupidly simple to make. You should give it a go!

Next up is just a random civilian alien. Perhaps someone on holiday, or another starport employee? Not sure yet.

I was trying to experiment with some different ideas and he just sort of fell out of my head and onto the table.

I liked the idea that he had 360-degree vision. That would be very helpful for a species that originally developed as prey for something else, but then he also has the binocular forward-facing eyes so maybe this species is smack in the middle of the food chain. Sometimes prey, sometimes the hunter. That big mouth might indicate that he is an ambush predator like an angler fish and that he swallows his prey whole.

He also has those pistol shrimp/praying mantis style arms so maybe he has multiple methods by which to snag prey? The universe is full of such wonderful diversity!

This ended up mostly being sculpting practice for me. Since I'm working on phasing out my store-bought figures I need some civilians to fill in some gaps. I've got three more test subjects who will likely end up like this chap. More on them next week.

Wow, I bet nothing gets by that one!

Love the unique body design.

Dan
PS.  Maybe I need to start dabbling again with putty, and give those bots a try.

I could see him with another paintjob for eyes looking like a typical Resident Evil monster!

I'm working along on the next two sculpts for my world. This gent will replace my character "Bucket," original figure seen here:

New and improved:

Bucket is the most clearly military/combatant character of my ship's crew, and I wanted him to have a more combat-oriented feel.

I went into the sculpting with the idea that Bucket would be something closer to a Space Marine than just a common soldier, so I tried to give a nod to the large shoulder pads and the oversized boots. Since Bucket gets his name from the bucket-shaped helmet, I decided to leave that pretty straightforward and simple.

Next up will be the new sculpt for the rival salvage team leader, Pink Pat. It turns out I don't have a good picture of her current figure.

Pat is supposed to be another captain with her own salvage crew, so I wanted her to have something like a Han Solo type of feel. The "Pink" comes from her hair color on the original figure, so I'll probably stick to that as her signature style point.

Perhaps a bit hard to see the exact scale comparison since my corks are different heights, but here are the two figures together.

That “bucket” helmet reminds me of the scary elevator guy in “5,000 Fingers Of Dr. T”:
