New Visegrad Battlegroup: The Fleet Musters
« on: July 12, 2019, 02:42:02 PM »
Have been dallying in sci-fi war of the 'near future' variety recently, through discovering Deadzone and Firefight by Mantic Games and absolutely loving the rulesets for both. Being less keen on the models for both, I've been repurposing some old Anvil Industry Afterlife miniatures for a take on near-future warfare on and around Earth.

Without further ado, introducing 'Journeyman 2-2', the first unit in the New Visegrad Battlegroup. Taking a considerable amount of inspiration from existing real-world units (including the real-life Visegrad Battlegroup, which has recently been reassembled for 2019-2021), I figured most of the soldiers in Journeyman would be comprised of Central/Eastern European recruits, with a couple embedded observers from Western European nations.

More to come - in this pic we have line infantry (Enforcers), commando units in urban camo (Enforcer Pathfinders) and a support platform (D.O.G. drone/sentry gun).

YES!!! First response on a Knight Captain Tyr thread!!  :D

The painting is spot on, you might need to share some how tos eventually I’m afraid! Lovely and gritty.

Would welcome your thoughts on those rulesets later on too.

Cheers mate! I'd love to do a how-to. It's very easy. Sponge weathering is your friend :) I'm due to get my first game of Deadzone next week!

Quick snap of some extra units (Pathfinders and sentry minigun already painted):

Nice.

I really must dig those figures out (especially Sergeant Blunt -aka FMB).

Two years on, I've sort of returned to this project...

In between (finally) discovering the TV show The Expanse, I've been inspired to return to my near-future stuff. Namely, Dropfleet Commander and possibly the Deadzone stuff above.

In the interests of keeping things tied together, I figured it'd be super cool to tie Journeyman 2-2 into a Dropfleet force. With that in mind, I figured the New Visegrad Battlegroup needed its first carrier - here's the San Francisco class troop carrier Coriolanus:

Knight-Captain Tyr kills again... in space!
They look amazing! Are You familiar with the Maelstormīs Edge miniature line (I love their broken infantry)? I think it would fit Your style:

Like that color scheme.  I tried for a similarly grungy look on my UCM way back when but the lighter base hull color on yours works better than my blue-grey did.  Really makes the crud and scorching stand out well.

I wasn't, but am looking now! Very interesting...

Finished 500pts in the meantime - the first time I've ever painted an entire (playable) force in a weekend!
