Grav Vehicle.
Hello again all,
On my Rogue 1 post I said that the interior was sawn & glued inside out.
http://castrarunis.blogspot.com/2019/07/rogue-1-for-15mm28mm.html
Well here is how the wip looks like , a huge 15mm grav vehicle.

Thanks for your comments.

Looks good. What do you use as gap filler?

Thanks Cook,
Milliput, Green stuff, White Glue, Super Glue, Plasticine & Squadron White Putty.
Depends on the situation not all of them together & what I have in hand.
On this one I used Milliput, White Glue & Super Glue

Thanks. I'm slowly working my way through a scratch built drop ship and I'm trying to figure out how to best fill in some gaps between large/rough cut pieces. Your work is inspirational, but I find that there seems to be some disconnect between looking at pictures of your scratch builds, and my ability to make my hands "do that."

Thanks Cook.
If you have questions just ask, No problem.
When it comes to filling gaps I even used tissue paper
Soaked in white glue & pressed into the join.I often glue
Card bulwarks as this helps to take the filling better & strenghtens the model.
Note my work is not perfect, sometimes its even wonky , I don't do perfect but if it looks good then it is
.
If you want send me pics of your work & I'll try to help you as best as I can.

Definitely will once I get a little further down the road with it. I had tried sculpting a pilot house for the drop ship, out of blue foam, but in retrospect I don't' care much for how that turned out when combined. I like the pilot house, and I like the start of the drop ship, but the two don't feel right together so I think that what I accomplished was the creation of a second ship
Not to hijack your thread, but this was my first scratch built vehicle, for my 28mm post apoc. I felt like overall it looked good, but I had some problems getting some of the edge gaps to fill in correctly. Consequently, some of the edges still look a bit like two pieces of card glued together.

Hello Cook.
Believe me, it looks good.Might even steal the idea
.
The problem with card is to try to make folds only ( scored with a thin rounded tool so as to damage the card) , another thing is to choose the best card for the job. Not all card is created equal. I find that medicine box card is thin & strong enough but cereal card box of the brown variety works well also.
Plan your folds , the more folds the better, so that you'll eliminate butt joints as much as possible Or plan them to be in the bottom where they are not visible. Here are development pics of a tank I made.
http://castrarunis.blogspot.com/2018/02/more-15mm-scratch-built-afvs-ifvs.html
Glue wide enough, 90deg angled bulwarks to butt joints so that they are strong & clean enough. Squeeze the glue peices with a flat nose , smooth faced pliers so as to aid adhesion.
Like these.... get a needle nose one also, for those tight places.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Parallel-Flat-Nose-Smooth-Pliers/dp/B000HYMQHE
https://www.google.com/search?q=flat+nose+smooth+jaw+pliers&oq=smooth+flat+nose+&aqs=chrome.2.69i57j0l2.8830j0j8&client=tablet-android-samsung&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#imgrc=Sqn69JEP4FbABM:
I can't stress it enough, tools are your friend, I do a lot of diy, so I have collected loads of handtools ( obviously not only for diy
)
Superglue & 2 part epoxy are your friend for bulking & strengthening of joins ( I buy from the 1 euro shop). As is quick drying white glue.
Cut little bits of thin card to hide & build over ugly joins. It is scifi after all , your model so you have an artistic license to do what you want.
Keep in mind that 15mm is much more forgiving than 28mm.
Hope this helps

Cook,
Oh Another thing..
When I have a big build , I either glue cube pieces of cured exp foam inside or squirt little amounts of it inside, not too much as it can deform the build whilst expanding. If this is the case, plan ahead & put the model between flat heavy objects.
I sometimes fill with gp resin & push hard foam pieces inside whilst still wet to get a light build.
Having said this card bulwarks glued at 90 deg should be enough. This principle is good for engineering so it will work for models .
