Battletech, Mechs and input needed.
« on: July 14, 2019, 01:17:26 AM »
Input needed: So I just added the 8 Mechs from the Armored Warfare box to my collection. I split the rest of my collection into two fictional factions with 2 lances each. My decision now is how to paint the new ones.
So should I
A) split the new Mechs between the other two factions
 or
B) paint up a new faction?

When I collected my Battletech project I just split them between the two, relatively evenly based on weight classes.

A potential alternative would be to paint some or all of the new mechs as one or 2 mercenary companies - that way you have the option of attaching them to either of the ‘core’ forces, or using them as a 3rd force. One of the things I always liked about the original Battletech universe is the mercenary forces and the flexibility they gave for changing things up for scenarios.

Yep, two base forces and a mercenary company wouldn't be a bad idea.  Give you a bit of flexibility.  If you're painting proper houses, you can also find info on which mechs were/are popular with those houses, adding a bit of fluff to it all.
