And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

I enjoyed your report. Although the details were different the outcome was quite historical.
I also liked your sort of abstract, map like table with all the movement arrows and markers. I perhaps wouldn't like it for every type of game but it was quite striking.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

2019 Painting Challenge :
figures bought: 500+
figures painted: 57
9 vehicles painted
4 terrain pieces scratchbuilt

I use maps when the terrain is too difficult to recreate with my 3D terrain pieces. The arrows aren't needed for the game. I use them to illustrate the photos. It is easier than adding them later with MS Paint. The cotton smoke marks who has fired. The yellow (disrupted) and blue (spent) markers are required. I also add casualty markers whenever a base is removed because I like the look. It makes it obvious where the heavy fighting has been.

See here for a small battle with 3D terrain and just a few arrows, again not required except for the photos. http://corlearshookfencibles.blogspot.com/2023/07/oeversee-iii-schleswig-holstein-action.html
