CLASH of Spears at Historicon - how it went !
« on: July 16, 2019, 04:36:58 PM »
What a great time...  we really enjoyed our trip to Historicon.

We had gone to Historicon many times but this was the first time in a role of promoting our set of rules.

It was hard work, we had a full day of demos from 9 AM to 9 PM.

We ran "mini" games, about the size of half an army, pre-depoyed by us, just so that people could play for about 45' to get a feel for the mechanics.

The two demo tables were constantly busy and it was great to see how quickly people picked up the rules. This was a concern for us as we have decided to come up with some mechanics that are we believe intuitive but that do require players to be constantly engaged and making lots of decisions and it was good to see convention gamers interact with that level of sophistication.

On the following day we actually did full participation games. Again we had the troops set up already for the players because we wanted to make it easy for them to get into the action.

The game was based on the fight between romans, syracusans and carthaginians when the Mamertines decided to take over Mesina, which eventaually triggered the first punic war...

And then the guys from Beasts of War came and tried the game and did some interviews

That was a lot of fun...

Great little videos.
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.
