Mortal Gods Footsore hoplites- fun with Spartans
« on: July 22, 2019, 08:18:13 PM »
Hi I'm having fun with the new Footsore hoplites for Mortal Gods.
Some final touch ups on this conversion of a 28mm Mortal Gods (Footsore Miniatures & Games) miniature.
I added a Spartan head, from their resin heads extras set..
The shield was at first a transfer from LBMS. I did not like how fine the detail looked (it looked too fake) - so I painted over it. Now I like it better.

Lovely stuff!  I had a bit of a look in the attic yesterday and found that I have a semi-forgotten leadpile of the Foundry "World of the Greeks" range. Lots of hoplites and such. Really nice range, even if it is a bit old. These Greeks are now worming their way into my head, telling me to paint them. Your post is making it harder for me to resist. Been such a long time since I painted any ancient Greeks.

Very nice, especially the shield  8)

I understand the newer transfers/decals are a boon to gamers but I agree that the detail on them can be a bit too much. I think yours looks spot on
cheers

:o  Beautiful.  Did you use just a straight bronze paint or have you used different paints to highlight?

A fine looking specimen. I also was rooting around in the lead pile and came across a Spartan and A N Other hoplite army in 15mm, which will deserve some attention eventually. The Spartans are Xyston.
If it’s too hard, I can’t do it

Very crisp painting on Brasidas, and the shield must've been a lot of work, but it looks really impressive!

Congratulations
Not so much for the shield as far as I'm concerned but for the small details! I like the brushwork on the sandals, the big toe and the eyes: a master hand there.
